    2009 Florida Gators?!?
Ok, so I just have a question I'd like some feedback on if you don't mind. With Florida being the #1 team in all the preseason polls that have come out what keeps them in that place through the month of September? Just winning the games or is a "convincing" win(50 to 60+ points) required being they play such a weak schedule starting out the month of Sept.

    Sept 5th Charleston Southern

    Sept 12th Troy

Sept 19th Tennesse (payback game for Kiffin running his mouth)

    Sept 26th Kentucky

    is that a serious question?

UF doesnt play any weaker a schedule then Texas, and probably better

So you think UF has to win convincingly 50-60 points to retain the #1 ranking?

    lol

Sure I'm serious! I mean Alabama has no tougher schedule either starting out after we get past Virginia Tech but we aren't #1 in the Nation either. As you said too lets take Texas. What if they just blow out La Monroe say 62-0 and Florida only wins over Charleston Southern(A Div 1-AA team now) by 14 or 21 do you question the validity of their ranking still at that point.

Now, of course in reality Florida will likely rotate through their waterboy as QB and still hang 100 points on them but as a hypathetical would you feel ok with a lackluster game and still stay on top.

I'll even admit that I thought Bama should have dropped from #1 last season due to the way others out performed in their games compared to how we did in ours.

This is why I hate polls so badly. There is no way that Florida is dropping out of the #1 spot---even in your hypothetical situation described above.

I can't begin to think of a situation (outside of Florida losing) where they would lose the #1 spot. I just can't see it happening.

you can bet your ass the Urban is gonna do his best to hang 60 on everyone they play.
all they need to do is win to stay on top.
Polls are meaningless early in the season.
Polls shouldnt come out for at least a month

Yeah, I'm with you 100% as well Martin. Could be I'm tired of ESPN talking about nothing but Florida and USC all the time too.

Bammer----I agree with you on that one. ESPN has their tongue placed firmly on Meyer's ass and it gets annoying.

God I wish we had a playoff. These polls are insane.

Everyone who is against a playoff structure says "It will make the regular season meaningless"---yeah, well guess what? Texas beat Oklahoma last year on a neutral field by 10-----that game was rendered meaningless the moment a friggin computer determined OU should be playing in the Big 12 title game.

ESPN will always have their darling teams. I expect it to be even worse this year with the golden child.

                  in other news:
I got a kick out of the "ole' ball coach" not voting for Tebow to be on the All SEC team. He blamed it on his assistant.

Spurrier is an odd guy. I am not sure if he did it this year, but for the longest time he would always put Duke on his first ballot every year. Every year he ranked Duke #25 on his first ballot as a way of saying thanks to Duke for giving him his first job.

                        Amen Brother!!!
I thought the same thing last season. I really wish we had a playoff as well and at least leave the polls alone from the end of last season.

I know we(Alabama) deservedly had our asses handed to us by Utah and because of that they were awarded #2 in the Nation by AP and #4 in the Coaches poll. So what did they do to drop all the way to #19 and #18?

Did they lose some games somewhere in the off season?

                        Really just makes me wanna

Simply winning should do it. They do not have to win every game by 50 points. They really do not have a tough gamein September, though the Tennessee game will get a lot of ink because of the bad blood between Kiffin and Meyer. Remember this. What you have here is nothing more than a glamour contest. That is all the polls are. By mid-October (after the 17th), the number of undefeated BCS conference teams will be very small. That is when the polls will actually mean something.

The American Football Coaches' Association actually pressured him to quit doing that because it "ruined the integrity of the polls", so he didn't do it this year. Biggest bunch of horseshit ever. It's a preseason poll, and he stops voting them 25th when they lose a game, which doesn't typically take long. The harm was negligible at best.

                              True Point guys!!!

Florida is a good team but people is acting like they are unbeatable and they are!!

                              1) Florida lost there offensive coordinator (We dont know how much of a impact he really had on this team)
                              2) They lost Percy Harvin who had 1,304 all purpose yards, also 660 offensive yards
3)They also lost Louis Murphy (loosing 655 receiving yards)
                              4) They also lost Cornelius Ingram (loosing 888 receiving yards)

**People want to crown this team as repeating National Champions but they are loosing a hell of a lot on offense. But they do return a good defense. **

I see OU/UT/UF as equals. I also think LSU will beat them in Baton Rouge.

What do you guys expect the line on Troy to be? I'll take Troy +30 or better...

My thoughts exactly as I'm definitley keeping an eye on the Troy/Bowling Green game in one week. YAY!! I can say that now..ONE WEEK BABY!! Please forgive me my excitement got the better of me.

Anyway, Troy has been a team to surprise people and while they will likely lose the margin will also likely be less than the spread is. I'm really sure LSU still remembers the scare from them last year as Troy was 24-3 at halftime and 31-10 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Sure LSU mounted the comeback of all comebacks and scored 30 unanswered points in the 4th quarter to win but still you get my point.
