After yesterday's terrible showing against a so-so BYU team, and with games against Utah, @Washington and @Notre Dame next, USC HC Clay Helton is staring at a 2-4 start to the season. With a new AD coming in, that gets him fired. Who replaces him?
I do not think Urban Meyer wants the job. The press will build that up, hoping for a Meyer-Saban Week 1 2020 matchup in Jerryworld, but it will not happen. Mike Norvell at Memphis State is an excellent candidate. Norvell runs a modified Air Raid offense. His weakness is protecting leads, which is also a major weakness of Helton's. Matt Campbell at Iowa State would be a solid choice. Campbell specializes in getting the most out of his players, another area that Helton fails to do, as witnissed by the huge number of losses after having 2nd half leads. If USC decides to keep the OC and DC, this is an excellent choice. Jeff Tedford, Fresno State. Tedford did a decent job at Cal, before a 3-9 season in 2012 sent him packing. He knows the Pac 12. He certainly knows USC, having gone 0-5 against them in his last 5 tries. If you can't beat 'em...Bryan Harsin, Boise State. It would not be a HC search without mentioning the Boise State HC. Harsin brings stability to a program, something USC obviously needs. Right now, I favor Norvell, who can put some life into USC. He was also wanted by both Arizona schools as their HC.
