Today is the final Sunday in September, and it will not be the final day in the Cleveland Indians' season. Love it. Obviously not going to Tribe/Twins (it's in Minnesota) but going to Browns/Bengals and will be listening on radio amongst the faithful. Go Tribe!

#434Biff - on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being most nerves, how are your nerves with the anticipation for the WC game tomorrow night? Probably a dumb question but are you going? I'll be pulling for your Indians.
I'm starting to look at this week's slate of SEC games & first on my list is Ole Miss @ Auburn. It is scary how evenly matched and these two teams truly are mirror images of one another. Both teams like to go fast pace/ no huddle and like to run the football but if you look deeper both teams are well balanced run v pass. Both defenses have trouble stopping the run. Auburn's defense has created more turnovers and does a better job getting off the field on 3rd. I thought this stat was alarming. Ole Miss has played 3 quality teams (Vandy, Texas & Bama) and those 3 teams converted 3rd down 53% of the time. Very concerning. Auburn is coming off a bye week and plays Western Carolina next. Ole Miss is coming off a shutout @ Alabama and plays Texas A&M. This is interesting to me bc at first thought you immediately thinks this gives Auburn an edge with more time to prepare; however I'm not so sure that's the case. For Ole Miss, this game is sandwiched between Bama and A&M. I see it as a must win game. Additionally, Ole Miss has spent the first 1/3 of the season on the road. They are battle tested on the road so they should be able to handle another road game in Jordan-Hare. This is a 27-24 type ball game that could go either way. After last weeks performance, fact these two are so similar and it's a road game, I'm really surprised to see Ole Miss favored in this game and the fact that they are favored says something to me. It's a must win for Ole Miss, more experienced staff, more experienced qb and more talent at the skill positions so I lean that way but probably not strong enough to make Ole Miss a play.Comment -

#438I know all about the pacing. Don't think I sat once during UGA game Saturday. I even got in defensive stance on that final drive. Almost ran through the wall when that 4th down pass fell incomplete. No telling what would happen if Dawgs ever hoist the crystal ball.
Sounds like it's going to be a great weekend. I lived in Chicago from 2000 to 2006 (before married) and it was a great 6yr stretch. I would have no problem moving back if the opportunity ever presented itself. Great city! Have fun dude and hope the Indians give you plenty of October excitement.
I don't recall Ohio St alumni bar but Joes on Weed St is good for watching college football especially if you time it for the ASU/ND game. When I was there ASU had a nice alumni club and the girls were so fine.
Sedgwicks use to serve up a 'make your own' Bloody Mary bar on Sundays. It was always a good time for NFL games. Probably changed a lot in last 7 years.
I'm probably going to have a write up for LSU/Miss St & Kentucky/S Carolina. My heart says Georgia should pound Tennesse but my gut is telling me different. I'll probably peek at team totals Saturday morning otherwise staying far away from this one. I have not paid much attention to Arkansas & Missouri so I'm passing although I should be at least keeping up with Missouri since they are in the east and come to Athens next week. Bama v Ga St a pass as well.
Good luck on card this weekend and safe trip to Chicago.
Let me know if you have a play for tonight's NL WC game. Later.Comment -

#439Excellent stuff, STF, thanks for posting it. I can't be in public for certain games, some due to fanship, others due to gambling. My basement is a great place and all are welcome, but i'm not a big enough person to be out all day drinking for March Madness and lose big on a game and listen to someone dance around over his bracket pool and control my mouth. A great way to win confrontations is to avoid them. Basement's more comfortable and i can get 4 games going at once with laptops, ipad, phone.
Saturday I think that we're going to be tailgating with our buffet somewhere in Evanston from somewhere about noon onward. OSU/NU isn't until 8 pm EST. Chicago is the best city in the US, i say. Love it. Gonna really be fun to hang out with friends from school, they're a fun group and never all get together now that married with kids. Odds of someone on that bus getting a horseshoe or a block O shaved into his head: +240. Value play.
As for the weekend's games, I'm going to accept that i'm not going to get much watching other than OSU/Northwestern after the noon games. Psyched to see OSU there, saw them in Evanston once before and crowd was 85% OSU fans. Bummed that I'll miss watching some good games (esp. ASU/ND, UW/Stanford). Tough card of games for the big pool this week. Will probably start the discussion with my thoughts on those 11 games and go from there. Going to try to decide on a handful of plays before i hit the road for Chicago Friday morning. That said, i have a feeling that the week will turn into a blur starting with Tribe game tomorrow night so tonight is worktime for CFB. If Ohio State TT over is 33 (which it would be right now), that's a lean and a half.Comment -

#442Okay, back to football. Start with thoughts on big pool:
UCLA/Utah +4' ------ i know that Thursday night home dogs are dangerous, but they're not this dangerous. UCLA
BYU/Utah State -6' ------ USU
Maryland/FSU -15' ------ Maryland
Illinois/UNL -10' ------ Illinois, esp with Martinez downgraded to questionable; probable for confidence points
Clemson/Cuse +13' ------ clueless, other than that i know i'll have 0 confidence points on this one
UGA/UT +10' ------ lean UGA but this is huge game for UT program/Butch Jones; 0 confidence points
LSU/Miss. St +9' ------ lean MSU; 0 confidence points
Arkansas/UF -10' ------ Arky
ASU/ND +5' ------ ASU
Ohio State/NU +5 ------ OSU
UW/Stanford -6' ------ lean UW; 0 confidence points
Not really crazy about any of these sides.Comment -

Take the Dawgs. As bad as UGA's D has been the Vols qb is awful and they don't have the talent to test UGA's secondary. I don't see him converting those 3rd and long situations like Metenburger was able to do time & time again. Vols have a good OL and will look to run the rock. UGA has been improving against the run since Chris Mayes (nose man) returned to the line up against North Texas. He was sidelined with a concussion suffered during fall camp. UGA probably without Gurley this week which does give me pause but I think Marshall is more than capable to open up play action. Murray is playing at a high level right now. This is a huge rivalry. Bigger than LSU in eyes of UGA people. I don't see this team letting up or letting down. Good leadership. If UGA is not in the 40's it's bc they stopped themselves with penalties, stupid turnovers. Take crowd out early. I'm thinking 41-24 type game.
I don't know if Miss St has enough offense to keep up or enough defense to slow down LSU. There will be lots of cowbells so noise could be a problem. Does LSU have a let down after an emotional loss to UGA. What's Mettenburgers frame of mind after going back home to Athens and losing an emotional game on a such a personal level. This is only his 2nd season in big boy football. I can see this being close for maybe a QTVR& a half but no reason Miss St should hang with LSU. I'm thinking 38-20 type game.
Don't be fooled by Arky's 30+pts last week vs A&M as that A&M defense has more holes than Swiss cheese. This Gator D is so good even without Easley. I like your under lean. 24-13 type game.Comment -

Like UCLA/Utah over, but like UCLA TT over better. Thinking that Bruins TT over and Browns 1H under will be my two Thursday plays.
Roger on UGA, MSU and Arky. Looking like i'm going to have a chalky card this week, but public faves win plenty of the time.
Here's my first draft:
UCLA -4' (20)
USU -6'
Maryland +15' (20)
Illinois +10' (25)
Clemson -13' probably since like the over
UGA -10'
LSU -9'
Arkansas +10' (10)
ASU -5'
Ohio State -5' (25)
UW +6' i guessComment -

#453True true. Sooner or later, someone was going to notice that the 1Hs in the Thursday night games are generally slow. As someone who has witnessed many Browns 1Hs, even if the Bills score multiple times, there's always a decent chance that the Browns will hang nothing but zeroes and threes in the first frames. I think that concessions are a bigger first half priority than scoring.Comment -
