    Thiago Alves is an idiot.
I just watched the PPV and I could not believe Alves. I liked the end where he was hamming it up with his coaches like he won. Everyone and their grandma knew he was way behind. Another part I like was where he would tag Story and then sit back for a couple of minutes to make sure he recovered before he would punch or kick again. Good performance by Story even though I believe Thiago did more damage. Overall terrible effort by Thiago. I thought what Story said in the intro turned out to be true. He said, "Alves quits." That's exactly what happened in the fight. Welcome to gate keeper status/prelim card buddy.

Repeatedly failing to circle away from the cage is ultimately what lost him the fight. That and the fact that Story has apparently developed an ungodly chin since the Brian Foster fight.

Not an intelligent performance from Mr. Alves.

Don't expect unintelligent fighters to fight with intelligence.

Alves has never come out with anything spectacular. He always fights the same way and is one dimensional.

Alves has now lost to GSP/Fitch/Story will it be the same thing vs Shields or Koscheck rematch. He can't handle the grinders, he'll fall out of the top 5 welterweights

Alves is a plodder which makes him vulnerable to wrestlers who want to cut off the ring and trap him. He isn't able to get up on his toes or quiackly scramble to avoid getting smothered a la Anderson or a Prime Cro Cop

I don't think his previous performances were indicative of a lack of intelligence. He's always tried to play to his strengths - that is, his ability to smash people on the feet - and for the most part, he's been successful in that throughout his career. This is the first fight where poor decision making has cost him, as opposed to simply being beaten by the better fighter which was the case against St-Pierre and Fitch.

yea alves is basically a really good gatekeeper. he has no chance at the title and is a great test for potential prospects.

i never thought rick story would be a real contender.

hathaway made him look so amateur. i had pretty much written him off.

yeah. think story won the alves fight through sheer tenacity.

Story just wanted it more... he needed this big win. Watching his background story from where he lived in the trailer park as a kid w/ basically no money really had me rooting for him in this fight. Well, that and the fact I had my $ on him. Alves is always an exciting fighter, but he did not impose his will early and that got him in trouble. Also Story is a pretty damn big WW himself so he wasn't getting bullied. Alves was too hesitant on the leg kicks. Rick dictated the pace and controlled him for most of the fight.. and surprisingly was not afraid to brawl. His TD's sealed the deal. I know some of you were bored watching this one, but I found it to be entertaining in spots. Bring on Fitch!
