I wanna throw on Shields too...seems like he has the motivation, wrestling, JJ, and raw talent to nail the sudden submission. People like to say GSP has the best "MMA IQ", but not being able to arm bar (and to a lesser but still wtf extent, kimura) Hardy was a big flub imo, seeing him look up at Jackson was so embarrassing, considering such p4p hype. He is liable for error again and his safety-first/coasting strategy only leaves him exposed to the upset longer. Knowing Shields has the athleticism and how much better his JJ is, I think he has the wit in his game to win at least 40% of the time.

I won't play as much as I want, my biggest concern is not Shields' striking or cardio but in all honestly -- and I'm not trolling or hating here -- I think there's potential for the by-all-means mastermind Jackson to somehow bypass or edge the (laughable in title) "BJ Penn Rule", it's a real concern, considering the facts of that entire history and this is the guy they would need to do it against, if it were to happen again. So I'm keeping the Shields plays medium light at most.

And that's bullshit, but what can you do?

Ballsy. That is a lot of moulah to throw on a guy that is going to get manhandled in the standup dept who is also against a fighter with some of the best GnP in the UFC. I just don't feel as though Shields line is worth the play. If I were to make any play on Jake at all it would have to be for sub of the night, because you know if he submits GSP he's getting it. And I don't see any other way for him to win. GSP will not be blanketed here.

Seriously, this is going to be a grind, and its going to be GSP doing all of the grinding. This guy will not be beaten at 170, especially against someone with no boxing ability.

I'd be a little concerned about how dehydrated Shields looked against Kampmann. I know he has had some time now to adjust but he was gassed from the beginning of that fight and GSP will put much more cardio pressure on him I'm sure.

I thought the Shields-Kampmann fight was a joke. Kampmann was at least trying to finish the fight whereas Jake was just laying on him. Thats one of my big gripes about the UFC is the over emphasis on takedowns even if no damage is delivered. If I remember right, Kamp. attempted more submissions too! If I was a judge I would have ruled that Kampmann won that fight. No way Shields beats GSP.
