Maynard's "cleaner" boxing has no sufficient movement. We could argue penn has a classic, accurate boxing style. Very true to form but in the pocket, jab and over hand strikes and uppercvuts close in. To me edgar is mobile striker and not a pocket puncher so his accuracy does come with volume. Leg kicks are the entire key for him. Its the one element that allows him in move in and out and circle. Its what will keep maynard back. For me I just don't see maynard hitting edgar cleanly, to me it just may be a big counter hook. All in all edgar has the skills to execute the approiate plan to beat maynard but it worries me that he will need 5rounds to do so. I like this match up a lot because to me edgar is a go gettier, edgy and aggressive he proved that's in 3 big fights, maynard to me has the abilty to be too safe and trigger shy. I think his patience this time will hurt him, but then again his patience is a great weapon. Bol to u guys

He's the shorter guy coming into this fight, having Edgar throw kicks means he has to get closer to another wrestler who is big enough to take him down. And a cut kick will give Grey something to grab on to.

the question is whether or not maynard shows a boing stance or a wrestlers stance, does he believe in his striking because if he does edgar can come in when ever and throw a leg kick. if maynard decides to take this down early and efficiently then we may seem him leading the power shoot leg, if this is the case edgar willn't kick and will circle.

leg kicks don't necessarily have to land either, they just have to create distance and timing for other strikes. if edgar cannot land land kicks due to his size then how the hell is he landing punches

^^^ I respect the breakdown and thanks but you'd do way better if you studied more. maynard probably has the cleaner boxing with Edgar having the big volume dirty boxing down. The story of this fight could be down to how effective Edgar's low kicks are though.

You mentioned a couple really good points, that edgar defines himself with his movement and volume and that he will probably attempt a TD first. Also I totally agree about maynard not really setting up his TDs with strikes. I think he will fight exactly like vs Florian, rely on his accuracy and reach, land the cleaner shots and increase the pressure until Edgar starts to fatigue or become predictable and give maynard openings for TDs. In general I think Edgar will strike and takedown to get points and Maynard will just go in there and play a pressure boxing game while being more and more physical as the fight wears on to take control by damage and attrition. Because of the size advantage and Maynard's ability to time clean accurate and straight punches especially on a smaller guy, edge to Maynard.

west in response, my point was i feel maynard needs to fight a "dirty" alla randy couture fight. i never suggusted he was a dirty boxer. i feel he needs to take away edgar's feet so he needs to bull forward duck his head throw one or two punches grab edgar, push, hold edgar etc and dirty box him in the clinch and or on the fence. keep him tight, use his size and power to grind him then pull him down for a mount.

Grey's can shoot off of either leg and he'll turn this fight into a grappling match quick.
