Whoa, Bernard Hopkins is +220 against Jean Pascal
I have two rules when it comes to wagering on Combat sports.

One of them is never ever wager against Bernard Hopkins.

This fight is several weeks away and we have Jean Pascal, the younger, faster opponent.

I was surprised to see Hopkins as the heavy underdog.

How many times have we seen this? No one gave Hopkins a chance against Tarver, Pavlik.

When was the last time we saw Hopkins convincingly lose a fight?

I had the Taylor fights drawish, and I thought B-Hop drew Calzaghe.

The last time I saw Hopkins lose convincingly was against Roy Jones in the 90's.

What are your thoughts on this?

Agree 100%. At +220 can't see how you don't take Hopkins (+275 by Decision ). Like Boddhissatva said he upset guys like Tarver and Pavlik, and Pascal might be over valed after his big upset win over Chad Dawson. Only problem is in a close fight which i think this will be, the judges might side with the "hometown guy" Pascal

Or the judges will award it to the guy who threw more punches or seemed "More active."

Did you see the Jones Jr fight though? This is not the same Hopkins that beat those other guys.

That was a sloppy fight, but Hopkins still easily won on the scorecards 117-110, 117-110, 118-109. Hopkins also turned down fights with Chad Dawson and Tomasz Adamek, which leads me to believe Hopkins thinks his style will win.

Hopkins as a dog is always worth a bet IMO.

Against Dawson, Pascal fought like a poor mans Hopkins. He slowed the pace of the fight down...attacked in spurts...clinched effectively. Very good performance. But now he's going up against the real thing in B-Hop.

I don't think Hopkins would've agreed to fight in Canada if he didn't really fancy his chances. He knows what styles/fighters to stay away from.

On the flipside...Pascal has the ability to throw explosive combinations that could steal rounds in a slow paced fight. Whether they land or not is a different story but they could definitely sway the judges in Quebec.

                Just my two cents...

Hopkins has always struggled with athletic black fighters.

Most recently he struggled mightily against Taylor. He wasn't outskilled, he was just outmaneuvered and was too old to keep up.

He has aged 5 years since then. Can't help. Not to mention, Pascal might be a better fighter then Taylor was. We don't know yet. He certainly isn't much worse.

People look at this as a skill competition. If that were the case Bernard would be a 3-1 favorite! But it's not, and thats why he is a large underdog
