So, let's go back to talking about movies. Apparently "Boyhood" just won three Golden Globes (including one for Best Drama). If any of you watch that movie and come away from the experience thinking it's a film that's even remotely competent, please let me know as I'm genuinely curious what people are seeing in it. Myself, I thought it was laughably bad (and I say that as an Ethan Hawke fan). The fact that it was filmed over the course of 12 years to show its characters actually aging was ambitious to be sure... but that doesn't even come close to excusing the poor execution. Seriously, check it out and get back to me.

I'll ignore the first part and say that I found Boyhood to be dreadfully boring. I think Linklater is a good writer of a very specific type of character (Before sunrise trilogy, slackers, etc), but thats about it. I think the contrivance of taking 13 years to make the movie has screwed with everyone's perception. While somehow Inarritu's movie-as-single-shot hasn't seemed to garner much traction at all.

I only need to read the basic description of a film to know whether its worth watching or not. top-rated films mean nothing to me these days. look at Drive and countless others. i'm all for discussing films though.


Watched the other day: The drop. pretty decent film Tom Hardy kills it in every role.

Under the skin. really strange film with an amazing soundtrack. every film fan should watch it once.

I was surprised to like Gone Girl as much as I did. It's completely silly, and I don't think its meant to be, but its good fun.

Watched Inherent Vice last night, or at least the first half of it. Wife said, "Oh god, this is so boring", so we shut it off, I was enjoying it. Watched Cake instead which was a snoozer, although Aniston did capture the movements of someone with chronic pain pretty well.

MD you watch films without having any idea what there about? why would you do that?

I find that I enjoy films most when I have no idea what they're about. I try to get to the theatre late and miss previews. I don't read criticism until after I've seen the films. I'll check rottentomatoes, and if the numbers are terrible I tend to skip it.

I agree, Marzy, that wolf of wall street was overblown. But you're so wrong about Drive it's not funny.

Word, I realized something was different about how Birdman was filmed but I thought it was more trying to make it look and feel like a traditional stage production where the director can actually force the audiences eyes to where they are supposed to look, didn't make the connection of it being done like a single shot as well, which makes a disappointing amount of sense to me now lol.

The oldest and most famous example is Rope by Hitchcock. Others have been made since, but I think Birdman is the first to incorporate temporal transitions

I didn't get anything yet Beelz.. I did Bet everyday on 5dimes... I think I got stiffed... Unless it takes time to fund?.. I may have only bet 25 bucks 6 days ago on a parlay and nothing more for that day so maybe that played a roll in it, IDK???.

I played that pick that I lost with another bookie at the time with a 1/2 point better line if my memory serves me correctly.. What ever, a $50 free play prize would be nice but if I get stiffed I'm not gonna complain about it.. No biggie..
