#2I already put one unit on Dodgers/Phils OVER 10. Maybe I'm blinded by all the gopher balls Tomko served up a couple years ago in St. Louis but I got a feeling the Phils put a hurt on him tomorrow (especially after being swept in their own park to start the year). Add to that Lloyd had some pretty ugly numbers when he was in the bigs last year...

#7Tomorrows slate looks rough. I like the Cubs and Royals small. I also like Arizona for two units. I am also looking at a few totals.Comment -

#10Friday afternoon contests...
Minnesota (K.Lohse) at Cleveland (P.Byrd) – 3:05 p.m. (ET)
Kyle Lohse had a fantastic spring that slipped under a lot of radars, winning five of his seven starts with a 2.42 ERA in 26 IP. But he has not been a great April pitcher (4-7, 14 starts, 5.90 ERA since 2003), and he has struggled against the Tribe in that same span (10 starts. 4-6, 5.34 ERA, 9 HR, 57.1 IP). At The Jake in Cleveland, he’s even worse (5 starts, 1-4, 6.92 ERA, 27.1 IP). Big Ben Broussard gives him the most trouble (3 HR, 25 AB), along with Troy Hafner (2 HR, 23 AB).
Paul Byrd is making his Cleveland debut after coming over from the Halos this winter. He was 2-2 with a 4.94 ERA in 23.2 IP this spring, and is a slow starter (5 starts. 1-3. 5.29 last three April’s). In his last three starts against the Twins, Byrd is 1-1 with a 4.43 ERA in 20.1 IP. This is just his second start at Jacobs Field in the last three years; he tossed seven shutout, 3-hit innings in the one start, though he was facing the Indians in that game. He has done well against Torii Hunter (.174, 23 AB), Tony Batista (.227, 2 HR, 22 AB), Shannon Stewart (.250, HR, 20 AB) and Rondell White (.143, HR, 14 AB). But he has struggled against Luis Castillo (.571, 14 AB), Justin Morneau (.444, 9 AB) and Lew Ford (.571, 7 AB).
No umpires posted yet for this one that I could find. The forecast calls for very good chance of rain with a high in the mid-50s this afternoon and wind blowing out from the south with gusts of 15-20 MPH. With the wind blowing out, I’m thinking the o9½ at -105 is the way to go. But with the weather, I’m reluctant to book a winner on this one since there’s a good chance that both starting pitchers might toss but a few frames before a rain delay ends their outing. A shortened game would also cancel any o/u wagers at VIP.
St. Louis (J.Suppan) at Chicago (G.Maddux) – 2:20 p.m. (ET)
Jeff Suppan threw BP this spring to the tune of a .344 BAA and 6.85 ERA in just under 24 IP. But he is known as a fast starter on the season with a 2.87 ERA and 8-5 record in his last 13 April starts covering 82.2 frames. Suppan has also performed well of late against the Cubbies (2.58 ERA, .259 BAA, 45.1 IP). At Wrigley, he’s made just one start the last few years, pitching an 8-inning gem with 7 Ks and a walk. Like a lot of pitchers, Suppan has had his troubles against Derek Lee (.480, 2 HR, 7 BB, 25 AB). But the players who have really popped Suppan from his AL days are Todd Walker (.294, HR, 34 AB) and Jacque Jones (.355, 4 HR, 9 BB, 31 AB). Michael Barrett (.467, 15 AB) has also caused Suppan grief.
Greg Maddux is coming off a decent spring (3.27, .229 BAA, 22 IP), though April has not been his best month the past few seasons. He has done better than a lot of pitchers against the Cards since 2003 (3.59 ERA, 4-2, 7 starts, 48.2 IP). No surprise that Albert Pujols has been among the toughest outs for him (.417, 3 HR, 24 AB). But it might surprise some to see little David ‘Tanner’ Eckstein having a lot of success against the future Hall of Fame pitcher (.455, 11 AB, 0 K). So Taguchi (.500, 4 AB) has also had success in limited appearances. Maddux is 12-15 in his last 34 starts at Wrigley with a 4.08 ERA (230.2 IP)
No umps posted, and the forecast is for a typical spring day in Chicago: chance of rain, high in the mid-50s, strong winds from the NE (15-25 MPH, blowing in from right-center). There is no o/u posted on this game at VIP. I’m very tempted to take the Cubs (+105) in this one.Comment -

#15Thanks, Razz & J-Edgar. Picking the over in the Minn-Cleve game today didn't take a member of Mensa. And with wind blowing in at Wrigley, easy to go with Maddux.Comment -
