    Nationals sign Pedro Astacio
i can't believe anyone signed him.

Nats get pitching help, sign Astacio
Washington, DC (Sports Network) - The Washington Nationals announced on Monday that they have signed pitcher Pedro Astacio to a one-year contract, pending a physical. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The signing comes after the team learned recently that newly acquired pitcher Brian Lawrence will be out until at least August with a shoulder injury.

Astacio posted a combined 6-10 record last season with a 4.69 era in 24 starts with both Texas and San Diego.

For his career, the 34 year-old righthander has a 124-119 record and a 4.61 era in 375 career starts spanning 14 big league seasons.

He has six double-digit win seasons during that time, including a career-high 17-win campaign with Colorado in 1999. Astacio has recorded 30 career complete games, including 11 shutouts.

I always liked Astacio. Wish he could've stayed healthy. Man never complained or made excuses when he pitched in Colorado. Believe he was also the first pitcher to chunk a CG in then-Enron Field in Houston during 2000 season when everyone was bobbleheading it about what a joke of a bandbox that stadium was for hitters.

the only reason the nats signed him is because Brian Lawrence is out for the year.
