Arroyo hasn’t made it out of the fifth inning in either of his last two starts and allowed four runs with seven hits in 4 2-3 innings of an 8-7 loss at Florida on Saturday, but didn’t factor in the decision.
“I couldn’t throw the ball over the plate,” Arroyo told the Reds’ official Web site.
Pineiro hasn’t pitched since May 20 because of a groin strain, but is 2-0 with a 0.68 ERA in two career starts against Cincinnati. He allowed one hit in seven scoreless innings of a 7-2 win over the Reds on April 29.
“Pineiro feels 100 percent,” La Russa told the team’s official Web site. “He’s ready, and we need him. It’s a good combination.”
