Kerry Wood to have knee surgery
this guy needs to just retire, and put those cubs fan out of misery. because, he's never healthy for a full season.

By JIM COUR, AP Sports Writer
    March 3, 2006

PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) -- Chicago Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood will have minor arthroscopic surgery on his right knee next week, general manager Jim Hendry said Friday.

Wood's surgery will take place Tuesday in Los Angeles.

The 28-year-old Wood had arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder last Aug. 31 and was not expected to be ready for the start of this season. He's thrown off the mound a couple of times in spring training, testing his shoulder.

An All-Star in 2003, Wood was 3-4 with a 4.23 ERA in 21 games last year. He was slowed by injuries all season, missing about three months while going on the disabled list three times.

After a 15-8 victory Friday over the Seattle Mariners, Cubs manager Dusty Baker said he was optimistic about Wood this season.

"It's better now than later," Baker said. "He's been working out real hard on his lower half all winter, so fortunately this is the time of year when he shouldn't be set back too far."

Wood threw on the side Friday and will do so again Monday before his surgery, Baker said.

"It's just the last few days that he's been complaining that he can't run," Baker said. "Hopefully, it won't be too long. It doesn't appear too serious."

Wood has been on the disabled list nine times in a professional career that began in 1995 after he was the fourth player chosen in the draft. He is 70-54 with a 3.67 ERA and 1,286 career strikeouts in 1,109 innings.

presley, he is better than Buerhle, when it comes to time on the DL

what kills me is that every year those cubs fans just claim there pitching is better than any other teams in the leauge. the really sick part is they probly really believe it too.

Cubs fans have a bad habit of succumbing to delusion.

if both Wood and Prior were healthy for a full season. i really wonder what type of impact they would really give the cubs.

i don't know ILL. remember how both wood and prior dominated the braves in that playoff series a few years back. they both just were throwing some major heat by those braves batters.

Wood set to rejoin Cubs after having knee surgery

MESA, Ariz. -- Chicago Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee in Los Angeles on Tuesday and was expected to rejoin the team Wednesday.

"It was about a 20-minute procedure, exactly what they were looking for," Chicago trainer Mark O'Neal said. "They went in there and cleaned the meniscus out and didn't find anything in there. The joint surface looked good."

The 28-year-old Wood is already rehabilitating his right shoulder following arthroscopic surgery last August. O'Neal said Wood will take medication to prevent infection after the knee surgery. If he responds well to the surgery, O'Neal said, Wood might begin light throwing drills in the next day or two. It's possible he could begin playing catch on the field within a week.

We always get a kick out of his post games interviews. He always plays dumb or throws his kid in the way. It's really some funny shit. He always says, "I don't man, man I don't know"

I'll set the O/U at 300 as to how times he says that this year.
