Galarraga is cheated out of what we now know for sure was a perfect game...
Joyce blows the biggest call of his career and will have the rest of his entire life to deal with that call...
Who do you feel worse for? I can't decide... The whole situation makes me absolutely sick. If baseball expands on instant replay, in what capacity could they use it? A red flag for each coach like in football? Only instant replay on certain plays? Who is going to determine what those plays are?
Certainly, this creates for a very interesting time in professional baseball. I really feel bad for both of these standup professionals. Galarraga was so professional in the way he handled himself and I felt he really came off looking like a better person than if he had of chewed Joyce out. Even Joyce mentioned that he would not have blamed Galarraga for giving him a few choice words for his blown call. Joyce was called the "2nd best umpire in baseball" by Sports Illustrated in 2006. He is no chump in the world of umpires. His reaction to viewing the instant replay really gave the public a look into what kind of person Jim Joyce is. He has been in the league 22 seasons. Having an umpire like that is an asset to the game in a time where umpires like Joe West are tossing players and managers for absolute BS.
I will be very interested to see how this forum reacts to Jim Joyce and his future...
