Atlanta screwed me.

no, the umpires screwed you (and me and a bunch of other people.) the strike zone was ridiculous. it was so big, it took every advantage away from a precision pitcher like hudson and made hammel his equal for 7 innings. and then, after the braves tied it in the top of the 8th, second base umpire ed rapuano (sp?) was out of position and missed mccann throwing out gonzalez by 8 inches. it's such an obvious out, you don't even need slow motion replay to see it. i was shocked that bobby cox didn't come out to argue and get tossed. maybe he's trying to pick his battles, especially in game one of a series. (and easier to stomach when you're 22 games over .500) anyway, two batters later, helton drove him in for the go ahead/game winning run. that entire crew was garbage tonight. i can only hope that after they watch the recap footage and submit their nightly report, that they'll realize how poor they were and come back tomorrow night refocused, because we're gonna get a great price with the Braves tomorrow night -- Lowe v De la rosa

it's been pretty bad all season. it's just amazing to me that guys who have been in the bigs for decades still can't position themselves in the correct spot to make the call on a steal attempt. this is umpiring 101 -- positioning is one of the first things they teach you! if you're in good position, the safe/out call is relatively easy.

what's even more annoying to me, is the attitude of some of these guys. Joe West comes to mind. the guy working the plate in toronto tonight, tossing Escobar out of the game in between innings for no apparent reason. a rookie umpire tossing Pudge Rodriguez out of a game in the FIRST inning about 2 weeks ago.

but these fat asses don't give a fvck because they've got a powerful union and baseball has done nothing to reel them in all these years. instead baseball just lets them get away with their bullshit. they treat the game like the it's about them, like they're owed something.

i actually think its mlb's fault here. being an ump in the minors sucks with all the traveling and demands and they get compensated terribly. and like any profession its very tough making it too the bigs. so there is little appeal to umpire and thus you see little competition and "evolving" in umpiring. you see these veteran umpires making mistakes left and right but mlb does not fund their "farm system" for umpires so there is no development and improvement

i don't like to get on the umpires that shiit is so difficult, its often no matter what side of a call you make you'll have a player/manager in your face. and how many times we have to look at a slow motion replay several times to determine the call i've always felt the umpires for the most part do a very good job and the miscalls will even out. but just this year i've never seen so many blatant calls that i don't even need a replay to see how bad a call it was
