Why don't more teams make the playoffs in MLB?

Wouldn't it be a good idea?

For example, the Blue Jays are my team and I know already they will probably miss the playoffs.

and the season is only 1/4 the way through.

Shorter regular season and more playoffs series with more teams. Why not?

Why? Because of greedy owners. Shorter regular season means less revenue. Players want to have shorter season, but owners don't want to.
