I like all the favorites today but can't lay all the chalk. My only play will be on SD.

      Umpires set for LDS games...

Not sure where everyone will be stationed for the games today, but I'm assuming the Crew Chiefs will take up their position behind the plate in the openers. Just a guess...

      Tigers-Yankees
CC: Tim McClelland (19-14-1 OVER this season)
Umps: Laz Diaz, Alfonso Marquez, Paul Emmel, Larry Poncino, Larry Vanover

      A's-Twins
CC: Randy Marsh (15-14-4 OVER this season)
Umps: Kerwin Danley, Mike Everitt, Ed Rapuano, Tim Tschida, Tony Randazzo

      Dodgers-Mets
CC: John Hirschbeck (17-8 UNDER this season)
Umps: Ted Barrett, Eric Cooper, Ron Kulpa, Mike Winters, Brian O'Nora

      Cards-Padres
CC: Gerry Davis (16-16-2 O/U this season)
Umps: Bill Welke, Brian Gorman, Greg Gibson, Wally Bell, Marty Foster

My picks for the umpires most likely to screw something up are Ed 'Bat Guano' Rapuano in the Oak-Min series and Larry Poncino in the Tigers-Yanks series. Rapuano gets my vote for the worst umpire to be working in this round of the playoffs.

Laz Diaz has a very inconsistent strikezone IMO.

I like all the dogs today. Hope the A's can push Santana's pitch count; I don't expect too much from them against him anyways.

          So far, 2 batters, 2 K's.

They are pushing Johan's pitch count, but most because of the strikeouts. Still, Big Hurt took him deep and little Marco Scutaro added an RBI double for a 2-0 Oakland lead in top of 4th. Zito has been solid with a walk and no hits, facing minimum nine Twins so far through three.

              Still 2-0, but...

...Bartlett's error opens up potential big inning for A's in top of 7th. One out, Oakland runners (Chavez & Thomas) on first and second.

                7th inning stretch

A's still lead two-zip. Santana escapes a sacks full jam in top of 7th, and he's up to 91 pitches right now. Good game so far.

Love playoff bases. A's playing very well today.

Yeah, no lie, Thomas is the man today, even with how well both Zito and Santana pitched.

                    Ah, October baseball

I don't trust Street here at all. Would have kept Barry in to pitch the 9th.

BTW, how f'n annoying is Joe Morgan. Never realized how repetitive he is (and he was working Giants' broadcasts for awhile as well). I don't want to hear his final thoughts on this game, because his entire commentary has been a running conclusion.

I don't understand why they don't have Castillo sacrificing Bartlett to third with no outs and down by one in the 8th.

Nobody likes my man Lil' Joe. Then again, even I have to admit he was a far superior second baseman than he is a broadcaster.

Echoing Owned's remarks about it being an excellent start to the postseason. Was pulling for the Twins, but still an outstanding game. Big, HUGE win for Oakland topping Santana in Minnesota. Definitely their series to lose now.
