Today the National Sports Advisors look for St Louis and Pittsburgh to score over 9.5 runs tonight.
Jeff Suppan (9-6, 4.85 ERA) goes for his fourth win in five starts when he toes the rubber for the Cardinals on Friday. The right-hander has been pitching superbly since the All-Star break, going 3-1 with a 1.95 ERA in five starts.
He gave up just four hits and one run in 7 1-3 innings to defeat Milwaukee 7-1 on Sunday.
Suppan is 1-1 with an 8.00 ERA in two outings against Pittsburgh i 2006, but is 7-2 with a 3.61 ERA in 13 career starts against his former team.
Zach Duke (7-10, 5.35) will look for his first win in four outings when he takes the hill for the Pirates. The 23-year-old southpaw won against Colorado on July 19, but is 0-2 with a .75 ERA in three starts since that outing.
He surrendered nine hits and five runs in six innings of a 7-5 loss to the Cubs on Saturday.
Duke is 1-0 with a 6.55 ERA in two starts against St Louis this season. He pitched two perfect innings against the Cardinals last year as a rookie.
The bottom line is we think this matchup has all the makings of a high scoring affair. Suppan has been pitching well of late, but has struggled against the Pirates this season. Meanwhile, Duke has been awful all year long and has been roughed up bad in his two starts against St Louis this year. Play the OVER.
