Reds sign Scott Hatteberg to one year extension
Good move by the Reds. Getting a .300 hitter at 1B for another year, at a hitter friendly ballpark. They just need to find someone to replace Austin Kearns, as I feel that was a big loss for the Reds.

Reds sign Hatteberg to one-year contract extension

    Associated Press

CINCINNATI -- Scott Hatteberg, who took over at first base for the Cincinnati Reds and has been an important part of their resurgence, got a one-year contract extension Wednesday that will pay him at least $1.65 million.

Hatteberg gets a $1.5 million base salary next season. The contract includes a club option for 2008 at $1.85 million, with a $150,000 buyout. If he has 500 plate appearances next season, the 2008 club option increases to a $2 million base salary with a $175,000 buyout.

Hatteberg can also make an additional $50,000 for making 500, 550 and 600 plate appearances.

As one of his first moves after taking over as general manager in February, Wayne Krivsky signed Hatteberg as a free agent from Oakland. Hatteberg replaced first baseman Sean Casey, who had been traded to Pittsburgh before Krivsky was hired.

Hatteberg agreed to a one-year, $750,000 deal for 2006. He has appeared in 87 games, batting .324 while playing solid defense.
