Yanks do look strong right now but they have a nasty habit of losing to wild cards in the playoffs. If they beat out Boston, Yanks would play Indians, no? CHI would have the best record in the AL and would not be allowed to play CLE in the first round. Yanks may then have to play CLE if they have a better record than LAA. I think CLE could beat the Yankees without a problem in short series, especially if it is so close to CLE's current hot streak.

I like the wildcard specifically because of the way this season is ending...and the way previous seasons have ended. If people complain about the purity of the game, it is the old story about where you draw the line.

What I would like is if the WC was severely disadvantaged in the playoffs. I have seen some different takes on playoff systems that seem very intriguing. I think one of them had a 2nd WC coming in for a 2 out of 3 series and the best team in the league getting a bye for those first few days. I think then they would have to reduce the number of games back to 154 to get that done though.

BTW, is it true that it looks like it will be Johnson vs. Schilling next Saturday? I am seeing that the game is the only one on at 1pm EST and is a Fox broadcast. Any idea on the matchup and also whether everyone around the country will get that game??

Shoot, it wasn't really about the team they bought. When they look back on this year, it is really gonna be about Small, Chacon, and Wang saving the team. If they had had crap pitchers instead, AL playoff race would have been set long ago.
