    Can Perez handle his nerves
Texas counters with rookie Martin Perez (10-5, 3.55), who is eager to prove himself with the season on the line.
"I'm excited, but I don't want to put any pressure on myself or get nervous," he told MLB's official website. "I just need to relax and take it as another game."

Usually if someone is thinking "don't get nervous" they will get nervous. Anyone have anything they use to try to handicap performance related to anxiety?

There pros. Sure he's a rookie.....He gets the same nerves every game. and they fade after the first few pitches. atleast thats what I've learned in competing at a sports at a somewhat high level and playing in championship games. Mabye the buildup to it is easy, but Price has nerves too believe me..................once the first pitch is thrown and the buildup is over, it becomes a competition

"It’s all in my head sometimes, and that’s what I have to do -- I have to get control of myself and don’t think too much about it," Perez said. "I have to be more relaxed and try to do my job."

I think it depends on the individual. Even if everyone has anxiety, the question is if the performance is affected.

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- The nerves got to Martin Perez on the mound again.Perez couldn't calm down from the start in his second Cactus League outing. He gave up two runs on five hits in the Texas Rangers' 11-7 loss to the Oakland Athletics.

OAKLAND, Calif. -- For a moment, it appeared as if the Rangers' Martin Perez would not get out of the first inning for the second consecutive start. He gave up back-to-back singles to start the inning and then, after a double play, added two walks, a single and a balk.
