March 4th-6th: Davis Cup Contest

Only thing going for the ATP fellas. WTA has two tournaments, but did not want to have to keep up with two contests.

Doesn't start until next Friday, but I have some fun ideas for this I think because of the way Davis Cup is formatted.

It doesn't bother explaining why Austria chose that route on the website. Anyone know the story?

I read a story about it in an Austrian newspaper. Translation was a bit rough, but it seems like the Austrians wanted to do something unusual/unique and apparently other countries are studying how this works out because other countries are interested in trying something similar. I'm guessing they figured against last year's runners up - they needed some sort of edge if possible. Don't know if this is it or not, but will be interesting to watch.

CONTEST RULES

1. ENTRY FEE IS 10 SBR POINTS. IF YOU ARE A NON-PRO, YOU CAN STILL ENTER. YOU MUST PAY YOUR FEE BY DONATING TWO POINTS EACH DAY FOR FIVE DAYS FROM MONDAY, FEBRUARY 28TH THROUGH THE START OF THE CONTEST ON FRIDAY, MARCH 4TH.

FAILURE TO PAY YOUR FEE IN HIS MANNER BY THE CONTEST STARTING DATE WILL RESULT IN YOUR ENTRY BEING VOIDED AND ALL POINTS GIVEN WILL STILL GO TO THE PRIZE POT FOR THIS CONTEST.

2. ENTRIES ARE TO BE SUBMITTED BY PM ONLY TO EAGLESPHAN36 BY THURSDAY, MARCH 3RD AT MIDNIGHT ET.

3. ANY ENTRIES SUBMITTED AFTER THE DEADLINE WILL BE VOIDED & ENTRY FEES WILL BE RETURNED.

CONTEST FORMAT

1. Pick THREE home teams that will lose this round in the Davis Cup.
[Home teams are Serbia, Sweden, Czech Republic, Argentina, Chile, Belgium, Croatia & Austria]

2. Pick ONE country to be your designated team for the weekend. Your team will earn you points for all the "ties" a.k.a. matches that they win. They can also lose you points for losses.

3. Pick the winners of each team match-up. In addition to picking the winner, also put the number of wins they will get to earn bonus points. This will be either 3,4 or 5.

4. Pick the winner: Sweden or Russia

5. Number of home teams to advance: OVER-UNDER 4

SCORING

1. Each correctly picked home team that loses earns you 25 points. Each incorrect pick loses you 10 points.

2. Each match/tie that you country wins will net you 25 points. Each loss loses you 10 points. If you team wins all five of their ties, you earn a 50 point bonus.

3. For each correctly picked winner, you earn 25 points. Each incorrect pick loses you 10 points. For each correct prediction on the number of wins a country gets, you get a 25 point bonus.

4. Correctly picking the winner nets you 25 points. An incorrect pick loses you 10 points.

5. Correctly picking the winner nets you 25 points. An incorrect pick loses you 10 points. A push = zero points.

TIE BREAKERS

*The first tie breaker is based on home country selected [#2]. Whichever entrant has more points earned from their country would win the tie breaker.

*The 2nd tie breaker is #3. Whichever entrant picks the higher correct number of winners, wins the tie break.

So here is what your entry should look like:

Prize payout will depend on # of entries + I have asked SBR if they will put up some additional points. Will post the prize payout structure following the entry deadline.
