Earlier this week, news broke that Agate Printing, Inc. filed suit against IMG and it's owner Ted Forstmann.
In the lawsuit, Agate claimed that they helped Forstmann to earn millions of dollars in sports bets, including betting on his own clients, most notably Roger Federer and Tiger Woods.
Forstmann immediately fired back, as he claimed that Agate has made similar allegations against him in the past, which were ultimately dismissed.
One of Agate's most scandalous claims was that Roger Federer gave Forstmann inside information before the 2007 French Open Final. Forstmann allegedly used that information when he made a $ 40,000 bet on the match.
It's unclear if the bet was on Federer or Rafael Nadal, who won that match.
I can just imagine the "inside information." Would it be "Rafa...clay....you know how that goes."
Following his quarterfinal victory over Robin Soderling in Shanghai, Federer took time to clear the air about his alleged involvement in Forstmann's bets.
"It’s disappointing that someone’s throwing my name around. I would never do such a thing," said Federer.
He added "My fans know that, the people who know me ... I have nothing to hide. I’m sorry for those who think there is something to the story. But there’s nothing."
By the by, Rafa won the 2007 French Open 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Before completely dismissing anything fishy, Rafa had not lost a set going into the final that year ... obviously no info on the bet known as of now, but just because Rafa won fairly easily doesn't mean there could not have been a tip of info. Doubt anything comes of this, but it is interesting.Comment -

Mind you the wagers he made on Ivanovic and Federer both lost. The story was apparently he made a bet of approx $10k on Federer to win the Final, Fed gave him inside info and then he upped his bet to close to $40k. Hard to corroborate that though from the way the wagers were placed on the Final since the initial one was for $22k and the subsequent one for $11k was placed 3 minutes later, not really leaving much of a window for that info to hit. Crazy stuff though.
