2010 Mens French Open Bracket Contest

I've seen enough interest in the tennis thread to think this might be fun and we get a lot of participants. Note this is a bracket contest for the entire tournament, not picking matches each round (just like filling an NCAA bracket)

I want to get together a contest for the French Open which begins next week. I also wanted to post it a week in advance so it gives everyone interested a chance to "save" their points.

Point fee to enter contest: 30 Points

I will hold all points for this contest. To be eligible you must submit your points and reply in this thread.

You will have right up to the first match of the tournament (time to be posted late this week when the schedule is announced) to submit your bracket and points.

Any entires after the beginning of the first match will not be counted. Any entries sent without being accompanied by points will not be counted.

The bracket will be announced Friday and I will post the format and how to make your selections when the bracket is announced. I will then put all the entires in an excel sheet and post it here (I believe you can post excel attachments) so everyone who joined can follow and keep you're own record and at the same time double check my calculations.

Please try to log in this thread even after the brackets are announced to make sure there are not any last minute seed withdrawals which could screw things up.

I'd like to award points to the winner and runner up but I'll wait until all entires are in, see how many we have

I can also run a women's tournament but I'm guessing interest might not be as high. If there is enough interest I will run one as well.

There will be a point system which I will post along with the bracket

I will post the bracket tomorrow since I want to wait for the qualifiers especially since one first round matchup will be 2 qualifiers. Deadline will be Sunday 5am ET which will basically give everyone one day to post picks

TB Did you decide on the amount of points we're each throwing in?
And are we just doing winners or are we predicting sets also? Like Fed wins in 3, Fed wins in 4, Fed in 5, for example.

Why would you require points to enter if SBR is putting up 1,000 to give out here? The only reason to have a points entry fee should be in order for there to be a "prize" amount to give away. Since SBR is footing the bill so-to-speak for the prize, this should be free entry. Just my opinion unless you're using the points as some sort of service fee for your time to keep track of this contest, in which case I would just suggest asking people to donate any points they see fit. You'd probably get more in that fashion IMO.

I also don't want to back out of the point entry fee just cause SBR is donating 1,000 points as well. The more points the merrier. The again with the free tournament I'm not expecting many entires here anyway. If I make it free it would just basically double the SBR contest.

winners will get richer
losers will get even more poorer

That is the economy of a 3rd world country. Think about the losers too. or distribute them among the ones finishing 4, 5 ,6.

To each his own, I just don't see the point in charging an entry fee when this is being set up in an entirely different format than the SBR contest. There's no competition for numbers of entries between the two. There will be less people in here just from the standpoint of having to fill out a whole bracket in the first place I think. Not charging entry would gain more people I think. Again, just voicing my two cents. Good luck.
