    about atp match refs
how are refs selected for atp matches and what are the credentials?

are locals chosen or do people from overseas come?

in the cilic/melzer match yesterday it seems as though melzer was stiffed from a fair chance to play for the win

cant be sure without hawkeye but it did seem a lot of close calls were going against him plus the ref constantly kept overturning linesmen calls, was that a help towards who they wanted to win? as cilic was the local hero?

dont get me wrong, my bet slip has marin cilic on it and im glad it cashed, but damn melzer must feel like murdering someone

I'm pretty sure the line judges are volunteers that are selected on the basis of seniority (not in age but in tournaments worked) and the Chair umps are paid umpires from a select group of ATP umps (like baseball).

I am a big fan of replacing umps in any sport with technology. If the purpose of the game is to be pure sport within the original rules established why not have every point instantly judged by hawkeye, I know the technology is there.

Yeah it must. I just think the technology must be there, maybe it is to expensive too.
