Djokovic closed to within just three of Roger Federer’s all-time Grand Slam record after winning the Australian Open final on Sunday.
He is now considered by most to be the favourite to best both Federer and Rafael Nadal by the end of their careers, and he certainly isn’t hiding his desire to achieve it.
However, the clock is ticking…
“It is my ambition to win as many of the grand slam titles as I can,” Djokovic added.
“It’s professionally what matters most to me. I would definitely want to play for many more years.
“But I think in order to have a chance for the historic No 1, I am going to try to do everything possible this season and next season maximum.
“That is what I can devote in terms of time and energy towards accomplishing that goal.”
Djokovic says a desire to spend time at home with his young family is the burning reason behind his own personal deadline.
He has two children, the eldest being five-years-old and he is aware the window to see them grow up is closing all the time.
