WTA Tennis: Wimbledon R2:
Haddad Maia +1.5 sets (2.95) vs Halep
Abanda +1.5 sets (2.88) vs Ostapenko
All we need today to make profit is any one of our player to grab at least 1 set. In the first match up we have young Brazilian Haddad Maia who is an attacking player that has improved a lot since last year. Her aggressive style of play is suited for the grass and this match up for can cause trouble to Halep who is known to cave to attacking players. Halep is a defensive player and won't have much time to chase down the ball consistently on the grass like she does on clay and if Haddad Maia can attack consistently for even a period of few games, she has the ability to take a set or even win the game. Haleps is definitely the favorite here but the odds are grossly over valued because of the two names and the current 6.70 odds on Haddad Maia definitely has value.
In the second matchup we will somewhat go against one of the players who have been very good to us so far this year, Ostapenko who we backed often this year as a value dog and cashed. Suddenly now she is a big favorite after winning the slam in France. Her aggressive tennis suits well for the grass but her serve is very weak and she does not control the timing of the shots as well as other surfaces. Ostapenko is flying high now coming off a great clay season, winning the French Open and because of that the odds are insanely over overvalued. Ostapenko shouldn't be this big of a favorite to anyone until she improves her serve and becomes more consistent on her service games. Abanda is very young like Ostapenko but she hasn't achieved anything yet but has similar potential if she fully develops her game. Abanda is coming into this tournament with a good feel for the wimbledon grass through 3 good qualifying matches and her play against Nara was impressive. Nara actually played well in that game but Abanda played efficient, balanced game with good service and attacking. Abanda's service is currently above Ostapenko and Abanda is also an attacking player. Things can get interesting if she can stay focused and a set can be gifted by Ostapenko's service games. Abanda to win at the current odds at 6.90 also holds value.
