    Fernando Verdasco match fixer??
First read this article about strange bets being placed against Verdasco: http://lastwordonsports.com/2015/11/...erdascos-odds/

    Then read this article:
Betting worth billions. Elite players. Violent threats. Covert messages with Sicilian gamblers. And suspicious matches at Wimbledon. Leaked files expose match-fixing evidence that tennis authorities have kept secret for years.

When you scroll down just a little bit, where it says: 'It can today be revealed'
Look at the second point: 'One top-50 player competing in the Australian Open is suspected of repeatedly fixing his first set'

-Verdasco is a top 50 player.
-He is competing in the AO.
-'Suspected of fixing his first set', Verdasco is a 'he'

What are your thoughts on this?
    To me its very interesting.

I read his response to the question, it was a very suss response that basically tiptoed around and avoided the question with no real in depth answer. But thats like all the Spanish players.

For a player with 5 or 10 million+ in career earnings, how much would it cost to fix a match?

The risk doesn't seem to equal the reward.

My guess is this type of thing happens far more often with younger players or ones that haven't earned a lot of money.

Its about quick and easy money. People offer 50.000 to 100.000 dollars to players to fix matches.
Thats a lot of money for losing a first round 'unimported' match of a 250 atp tournament.

Why would someone like Verdasco, who's made 12+ million in his career(not including endorsements), risk everything for a quick 50k?

            makes no sense

Everyone has a price though, I suppose.

I could see maybe a set here and there but not a complete loss in a major for 50k or 100k

Yes Ive found him suspect over the years in some matches, also think him and some others use/have used "stuff" he's probably now a bit bigger and bulkier than he's been in a long time or ever.

Fernando went through a stretch a couple of years ago when he could buy a win and he looked as haggard as a starving child in Zimbabwe. Then suddenly he started to play like a superman. That being said, where is the proof ? He is probably a top-5 most entertaining player in the game and suspending him would mean ending his career.
