Until she gets a new coach, back her at your own risk.

She seems caught up in the sideshow of being a "brand" from everything I read this offseason and maybe not so focused to start the season. Might be a bit foolish and hard headed (youth).

Showed today against Safarova some for sure. Would monitor her and be prepared to maybe find a spot at the Aussie Open to make some dog money going against her.

Until she improves her footwork/movement, her ceiling is capped.

Female athlete of the year in Canada... That's probably got to her head.... I can see an off year. Back to reality.

I've written similar things in another thread last year and ended up disagreeing w/ EaglesPhan36 at that time. Besides her footwork, she lacks the composure to become a true champ. Talent, everybody has it to a degree. Composure, determination and workrate makes a champ. And all that media/fan attention (mostly because of her physique) and hyping back at home doesn't really make any good for her. She's not mature enough to handle that. When she fails to fulfil expectations, she'll be even more pressurized.

Full article below, I think this is one of the worst things that can happen to a developing athlete

Definitely monitor her matchups in Australia & the temps. Without guidance, she obviously was ill prepped for the heat in Perth. Very doubtful her conditioning for that changes within 10 days or so.

She is working with a new hitting partner who worked at her last coach's academy. Only for the Aussie swing.

no h8.. she just can't play well. I watched her lose to Safarova.
It was absolutely pathetic how bad she was.

I've been tracking this since she dropped her coach. The only thing she's done since dropping Saviano was inking that management deal and seemingly being more interested in "branding" herself than finding direction on the court. Who is gonna hate a hot broad who is very outgoing? She just lacks focus right now IMO.

She's got talent, but there's obviously something in her rep too that is rebellious or wanting to control too much. Changing coaches two years in a row, I understand that can happen - but as a youngster, usually you're looking for consistency and direction from somewhere. Usually a Grand Slam contender also takes a bit better prep for the season, she is always in the gym, but I don't think she prepped for the heat at all.

She might be okay at a later point in the season once she finds that, but early on I do think she's going to struggle by the lofty standards being laid on her now.

didnt see the match, but like everything else in these first few weeks,
does not set any precedent at all.

After reading more of Serena's comments, sounds like she's got some sort of virus or something that is sapping her energy. Genie can take some confidence, but she clearly beat someone who is not close to 100%

"I don't know what's wrong with me, I'm so tired," said the 33-year-old.

"It's weird. I can't get my body to move. I feel like I've got no energy. It's a little frustrating because I know I can play two thousand times better.
Eugenie Bouchard drops just three games in a stunning win over world number one Serena Williams at the Hopman Cup.

As we saw over the summer when she's out of form it takes a while for her to get back into the swing of things.

flash forward to 2030: Bouchard will lag Muguruza, Keys, and Garcia in slams...

but may very well have outpaced all of 'em in accumulated Ka-Ching, due to sponso-revenues
