    5Dimes asking for password
    Hi,

today an agent on the 5Dimes chat asked me to confirm my password. I felt I shouldn't do so, what is your opinion on this matter? I was just checking a line wasn't bad so he answered my question anyway, and it wasn't bad.

    Thanks

Lots of books do this. It's dumb, but they won't budge on it. If you're that concerned about security, just call in.

Absolutely is really wrong to ask the password for an user, but 5dimes make this usually.

this question comes up quite frequently
there are several threads dealing with it
but a day or so ago there was one expressing surprise that they didn't ask for login or password in live chat and I thought that perhaps at last they had done away with the practice

extremely arhaic way of doing business.
feels like internet in early 1990s.
if, as i read "15k is pocket change for them", why dont they upgrade??

any book using this practice doesnt deserve to be A+.
recently, i had a failed mb login attempt from location of an "A+" book i use. luckily i never gave them password via chat. so be very very careful about those passwords.

I do not like it, password should be for yourself ONLY. I had the same experience with BetCris and bet DSI.

I also agree with I hate and dont understand why a CS needs my password to help me. Its the worst confirmation there can be IMHO.

If they didn't ask for the password, couldn't it be worse? (like if say someone wanted to do a book to book transfer trying to steal our money) If that happened, I would be mad that they didn't ask for the password.

The book KNOWS your password. They ask you, to confirm they are talking with the account holder. They do it to protect the account holder.

Yeah... they ask to confirm its you. They could ask you your birthday or an array of any other things, but they ask you your password. It's that simple.

It's pointless to not give it, as they have it in front of them whether you give it or not.

Making a phone bet, one will be asked for the password as well. And when speaking to the Accounts Dept.

There should be a PIN number for calling in which is different from one's password, which is the way GoDaddy does it.

But a much bigger problem than the fact that the entire office has access to your password, is that most of the websites use unsecure connections when logged in (non-HTTPS).
                                            That is archaic.
