Bodog/Bovada Cancelled Big Wins - Advice?

    Hello,

First time poster just looking for some advice. The situation is essentially that I am a very casual sportsbettor who bets the NBA pretty small with my husband as a hobby. I only bet on Bodog.

Last week I made a parlay bet on Damian Lillard (a couple props parlayed, the night he got 50 points) that hit for about $4,000 on Bodog.

I took that money and made a bunch of other paraly prop bets the very next night. A long shot on Kevin Durant hit for about $11,000. At this point I was super excited obviously as I had never won more than a few thousand on anything in my life despite a few trips to Vegas.

Of course, I made even more bets the next night and another long shot came in on Rudy Gay for around $8,000.

I did the same thing for the next couple of nights but ended up down a little bit. I had already made a bunch of the same bets for today and was currently up about $20,000 for the week.

When I logged in this morning, my account balance was back to where it was one week ago. After crying, I contacted Bodog through the chat and they explained that the bets were cancelled as they were deemed to be 'correlated parlays'. They essentially were very firm on their stance, quite rude, and even kind of threatened some type of legal action against me.

I tried to explain that I am a very casual bettor, had made a big production to all my family friends about my winnings, and even spent some of the money already. This is a HUGE amount of money to me and I am obviously devestated.

Now, I did think it was a bit weird that they were offering these long shot bets that didn't seem to be that unlikely but until I googled 'correlated parlays' I didn't realize that is what I was doing. It just seemed like good odds but after researching it now I guess the bets were 'correlated parlays'. Was I trying to make money? Yes.

The point I tried to make to them (unsuccessfully) is that I rely on them to tell me what bets I can and can't make. If they accept the bet and put $20,000 in my account I couldn't understand how they can go back a week later and say "you violated our terms".

Obviously they made a mistake offering these bets but I would assume the honourable thing to do would be to honour the bets made and cancel any future action. It sucks for them if someone made a mistake but I assume $20,000 isn't a huge sum of money for Bodog.

When doing some research I see that someone had the exact same situation happend in Feb. of 2014 but I don't see any result of that incident. So here is where I guess I am asking for advice.

I am a casual bettor and mother of two young kids. I don't really want to make a huge stink about this but I feel like Goliath just stomped on David. Is it worth my time trying posting this all over the internet and contacting anyone who will listen to me to try and get my money back? Or should I just try to cash out the last little bit of money I have on Bodog and move on with my life?

Sorry for the long post and any advice is appreciated. I really don't know what to do here.

Bodog is a shit book. Not deserving of their A+ rating. I hope they do the right thing, but knowing how they treat situations like this I doubt it.

The bet on Lillard was $150. The bet on Durrant was $100. The bet on Gay was $75.

Agree with some of what youre saying. The whole story sounds a bit implausible. First saying it is a lot of money but then continuing to let it ride all the way to 20K?

And without knowing the props specifically it is hard to say how blatantly correlated they are.

That said though I still have had run ins with bovada where they just wipe accounts clean for dumbass reasons so I can believe that too.

I know this sounds like a fishy story but I can post screenshots to prove everything. Here is the Kevin Durant bet unsettled.

The bet was for him to have most 3-pters of anyone playing that night and scoring most points also. He was 31-1 for the 3-pointers part as Harden, Curry, and Thompson were all also playing that night.

Not that it matters either but the only reason I was betting at all is that I won some money betting on Orlando to win Sout East Division a few months back. The money was all locked as I didn't realize about play through requirements. I deposited $1,000 and got a $200 bonus. This required $6,000 in betting and was having a tough time clearing it to withdraw my money.

Look lady, lot of scammers come in and make up stories, new accounts and know what they’re doing. If your story is true, I’m sorry.

None of the regular posters are going to help out here. You’re only going to get trolled.

Go to the link below, enter in the required information and share your story. An SBR agent will contact bodog and see what has happened / try to appeal for a resolution favorable to both parties.

    Good luck.

    Thank you.

I can see how this seems super fishy but I assure you it is true and I don't know where else to turn. I wish I had taken a screen shot of the chat this morning but they closed it on their end.

How long does SBR normally take to answer a complaint email?

Bodog answered another email and just stood firm on cancelling the bets so just seeing what are chances SBR can help out.

Thinking about it more I see why there might not be a ton of sympathy on this forum. Most of you obviously bet a lot and are aware that bets can be cancelled many days after a bet has been paid out.

I had no idea that this was a possibility and this is why I am having a tough time just accepting them taking all of the money back. Obviously I made a bunch of these bets because I thought the odds were good. That is what everyone tries to do I thought. I also understand now that somone must have made a mistake on their end which is why they would want to cancel all future action.

But I just have a feeling like this only became an issue after I won. If I have to worry about whether or not the odds are too good when making a bet, what is the point of trying to find good bets?

I am honestly probably going to never bet sports again and I think if a lot of casual bettors knew that sites could cancel bets they would be reluctant to bet online also.

Bodog let me go almost a week thinking I had won $20,000 and then just took it back and didn't even contact me ahead of time or offer any sort of apology. They are acting like I am the one who did something wrong without any consideration to the emotional roller coaster that my family has just gone through.

So although complaining on the internet may not get me any of that money back I think I will probably still do it. It will allow me to vent but also let a few people like myslef know what they are getting into when the bet online with Bodog. If you make a mistake no problem, but if Bodog makes a mistake they'll take every dollar.

And what constitutes a mistake on their end? Based on my research this afternoon, whatever they want.

We try to respond within 24 business hours to complaints.

But honestly, those are very strongly correlated and would be cancelled as obvious errors by most books.

Maybe your dispute agent can get a manager to do something for you...

So I read on another thread that SBR will seldom "go against" one of the books that pays the bills? Call me gullible but I honestly thought this was an independent watchdog site? Guess I didn't learn a thing from my dealings with OSGA. I'm looking at these sportsbook grades with more skepticism now that I've been made aware of the situation with SBR.

    Cancelled bets happen.

Have had that happen many times over the years on many different books when I would have won. After the out come to a few times. You let it go and move on.

There is usually a reason why the bet was cancelled and it's not always because you loaded up most of the time.

Minimum reasonable outcome is they pay the bigger of the two props. Clearly correlated but they should not void both if she won both. If one was +1000 and the other +800, they should pay $100 at +1000 odds.

If the agent and Bovada manager are feeling generous, they would prorate the 10k to 20k upswing on normal bets to the new balance, for example, with a new balance of $1100 they doubled their $10k and so the $1100 (100 @ +1000) becomes $2200.

But yeah, kind of screwed up they accepted a parlay there but CLEARLY correlated and should not be paid full.

Let’s be honest here..The book booked the bet.. The book should pay the bet.... Just another black eye for online books... even if situation is made whole because of online pressure. How many are scammed not knowing if online help? I will be bashed and I welcome it... But thank God sports betting has been legalized in the states.. Things of this nature won’t happen... Book books a bet.. If bet wins the bet will be paid plain and simple.... Online books are like the Wild West... I will say it again no online books are A+... Some just take longer to fck you longer then others...This story is just another example,,

Just because heavily correlated bets can still lose, doesn't make them legitimate. These bets should never have been allowed.

No never.. Now that would be something to complain about if a bookie does that..

Single bets in a parlay gets cancelled but the rest of multi team parlay remains in play..
