"The patron dispute carries widespread ramifications for the emerging U.S. sports betting industry, while calling into question how often top sportsbooks engage in selective enforcement regarding the practice of messenger betting. The dispute could also shed light on whether major sportsbooks are operating in a gray area by condoning a practice that may run afoul of numerous federal and state laws. Messenger betting, while difficult to enforce, occurs when an out-of-state bettor transmits information through a proxy, instructing the proxy to place a wager in another jurisdiction, typically one with legalized gambling.

The bettor, who spoke with Sports Handle exclusively on the condition of anonymity, said the company froze his account on Oct. 23, less than three weeks after he placed a $3 million parlay featuring a futures wager on the Green Bay Packers to win the NFC North."

I bet a few people are or want to do that.

The DK manager who told him he could use a beard should be the one slammed by regulator. Shit like this can't happen without someone on the inside approving or at least letting it slide.

But the player is left to carry the bag alone.

Selective enforcement is so damaging to the industry, this is the facts. Sports betting industry needs to adapt if it's going to turn into a legitimate industry.

It's so easy to selectively pick the wins you want to pay out, even the major books are doing this post-pandemic. It's alarming.

How do these dumb shits have that kind of money. Extremely stupid to risk three millions dollar over what some low level employee tells you. You want to place that kind of bet get a plane ticket. I don’t feel bad for guy at all. He obviously knew what risk he was taking and could afford to lose and he’s going to cost tax payers and DraftKings money sorting this shit out. He’s a piece of shit if you ask me. Hope he doesn’t get paid.

It does seem like a very strange situation and I admit I dont' quite understand what's going on . Never heard of a book taking anything close to a $3MM bet.

If you want to bet huge amounts like that, you only need to ask at a few books and someone who wants that size business will soon find you.

It sounds like he had a VIP host looking after him at a Vegas book, where it is legal to use a local beard to place bets. But when that host moved to Draftkings and tried to bring the whales business across with him, the host facilitated the same setup, but that is illegal in New Jersey.
