Do you use a VPN?

I'm not an IT expert at all but I always ask myself why people consider a VPN as a security measure but don't consider the risk the VPN provider could read out the data you send through the network. Especially when it comes to Bitcoin.

I would never trust any VPN provider no matter how good and safe 'independent' websites rate them.

Do the books frown upon it or do they not care?

Depends on the book. Soft books could use the use of a VPN as an excuse for not paying out. VPNs are often used by fraudsters, so I would never use one unless I have the permission of the bookie/agent.

Agree with Lonnie.

Not sure how it increases your security when dealing with a book and it can make them suspicious of you.

Using a vpn for gambling only makes sense if gambling is illegal in your location and you're more concerned about being caught than you are about losing your balance. The book already knows who you are. Not only will using a vpn make a book more suspicious it will reduce your security. There is currently a thread in this section where someone had their account hacked, (allegedly), and bets were made from their account without their knowledge on a different machine and with a different IP. That person's best hope for a refund is in being able to show they only placed wagers from specific locations. If that person used vpns they would have little to no hope of recovering their funds. There was also an SBR article this year about a book suspending an account because the account holder was posting on business/holiday and the IPs were from a different country. The account holder hadn't told the book he/she was travelling before making the bets. Reducing your security by using a vpn is ultimately up to you, but if you are going to ask the question the best people to ask are the books rather than forum members.

I don't want to hijack this thread but on the subject of vpns and IP i'd like to see SBR including IP policy by books as part of its grading system. Gamblers should be able to see their IP history with a book whenever they log in. This would help if their is a dispute in someone having multiple accounts with the same IP. As it is books can say they've detected multiple accounts from an IP and there's very little anyone else can do to confirm or deny it. There's a suspicion books 'could' just be detecting the same IPs from popular IP warehouses such as Hoxx. I know there's more sophisticated detection software out there. Most forum admins use or know of some version of the vBulletin AE Detector that uses stored cookies to compare account information.

Thanks for the replies. I have nothing to hide...just curious. I've never had any issues with the books regarding my ip address/location and I travel frequently and rarely notify them when I do. I usually use my phone as a mobile hotspot to my laptop for my internet service. I recently went on a Caribbean cruise and notified bookmaker I was doing so and I had no issues with any of their services using the ship's internet service or my own when we were docked in Mexico. I didn't notify the other books I use and had no issues with them either.

VPN are great for NFL Gamepass International. You can watch up to four simultaneous game LIVE. The US version of Gamepass you can't watch games live.

I would use vpn for the mere fact that it stops your ISP from collecting and profiting off your data. any business can buy your browsing history from your isp, so at least use a vpn and https everywhere plugin. you also dont want to login to public wifi hotspots without a vpn!

every online book ive dealt with does not care that i use a vpn, nor have i ever had to notify them of use.

proton vpn is one i would recommend paying for... i would not bother with free vpn plans.

Actually VPN Express give me full access to UK Netflix,but just work with UK...much more movies and tv shows offer than in this shitty country.
I use this vpn for bookmakers too.bet 365 and some others are not friendly for this service.

I just had a withdrawal on hold because I had cashed out with my phone with vpn on that we use for Netflix ... then I travelled the next day and so now that I got back i missed the email that said my withdrawal is on hold ... with that said ... I had no idea I was supposed to check in with them and yet to this point no one has stopped any of my betting over the past week .. so now not sure what to do in this case ..

I would think the BTC books wouldn't take issue with VPN's. Lots of people don't want BTC transactions traced back to their home IP, for obvious reasons.
