You sound like you understand the 'price' of btc is a very fluid thing and there is no true correct price at any moment. It's what you can buy it for that moment at one of many exchanges.
If you know that I am surprised that you are carrying on that a $2, or even $10, discrepancy between rates is something the book is intentionally doing to you.
As I said before "Anyone with an account can go to the deposit page, check the current live price at http://www.coindesk.com/price/, input that price in for a deposit and see that they ask for very close to 1 bitcoin."
I don't see what other proof is needed. And anyone can check for themselves at any time!
