Have not read it all but it shows UK gambling regulation is a total joke if true.

Betfair would have tried to use the 'European defence' at the time that it was against EU treaties for individual countries to restrict their right to trade across the EU. Although where the boundaries are set is still not fully clear, judgements over the years have tended to favour the rights of individual countries to restrict gambling due to such things as cultural difference. Of course the fact that some countries are merely protecting a nationalised monopoly is nothing to do with it.
