Why Don't Aussie Gov't Allow Live Betting On Internet???
They would make a fortune...I wonder if people call to make live wagers???
It seems you would need lots of clerks at these books and be costly

Ignorance and stupidity.
The law makers don't understand the difference between wagering and gaming and the "problem gambling" lobby makes too much noise.

Every year when I head down for the Auss millions I spend a lot of time in my hotel room (Crown Melbourne) with a VPN and on Belfair. Surely you crimmies can do the same?

I've heard stories that Betfair can somehow detect players circumventing their systems and have closed their accounts.

At a training course a bf guy told me that they periodically check if any IPs are part of a block owned by a known proxy/VPN service then flag the account for closer review.
Doubt that is all they do of course.

Maybe non Aussies can get away with it but for an Aussie to try that is flirting with losing his account imho. Can he prove he wasn't in the country at the time?

There is a 2nd hand market for Belfair accounts. I pay about £500-£700 per account, you can also pay a % of winnings on the account.

Presumably that's to dodge the premium charge?
So how does that work with in-play betting for a home based Aussie?

Yeah. There are some ways round that though.......
1) Get a router with VPN capability, thus it just appears as a normal connection from your home IP. You'll still be showing browser ID and so on though, so if you're using a mobile device there's a small chance they might notice (can change that in some mobile browsers).
2) Leave your home computer on and remote desktop to it. Some PCs you can even switch off, and set them to wake up for incoming network connections, but for me that's not always worked (and with power-saving, leaving them permanently on doesn't eat much electricity). This is basically undetectable afaik - unless they maybe try connect to your home IP on the remote desktop socket to check.
I have never had any issues in using VPN's and I have been using them for about 8-10 years, my response would be "I use it to avoid identity theft". A perfectly legal and legit response. Hareeba: You can buy an account from a UK national or whoever, then use a VPN to bet in-play.

Bingo. too easy and 100% undetectable.
Doesnt matter how many times you tell people this though Heehaw.... most people still want to pay some third party vpn or soemthing that sounds more technical.

What are they worth? I wonder if Aussie accounts are any use.
I hate xenophon, his way of thinking and his face!
As annoying as it is, he is right though.
Live in-play betting appeals to the fast gratification gambler, like pokie players. It will create a wave of increased gambling and attract new young people to sports betting like nothing else does.
If that is such a terrible thing or not should be the argument with him.

If/when it does happen can you imagine how badly Aussies are going to get beaten by the Brits and others who are expert in live trading already?

There's books out there that let Aussies bet in-play online anyway, it's not hard to find. Those that are going to do it are probably already doing it. So really the gov is just wrecking business fr the local licensed online bookies.

aussies can bet in play online with some uk books anyway and as for betfair, you don't need to be online in play to make money.
Competition for you LOL did make me chuckle this.

if you are using a VPN they eventually disable something on your account when even when you are on the VPN it will say something like not allowed for Australian accounts (when you first do it the moment you are on a VPN it would allow you to bet)
there is a way around this and that is you change your country in your settings and that fixes it again and it will work properly when used with a VPN.
Eventually they disable it again and since then I've been unable to find a workaround
I really can't see them shutting your account down unless you continue to find ways around it, I also know someone who talked his way out of it when he was first caught using an overseas vpn, he is still able to use it, but I'd say he just got lucky when he was first flagged

Dink, long may you remain a clueless ignorant muppet. You have no clue son, no clue at all. Carry on with your little $000 bet's trying to beat lines. I'm not going to educate you in things you know nothing about, you got to pay for that son and you couldn't even afford 30 minutes of my time. You're probably just another 25 year old kid fresh off the block, ignorance is bliss son, who knows may be one day you might realise how backward and dumb you are.
