Always will depend on the book. In the past, I have used a mobile phone bill as proof to Thegreek. But I remember Neteller did not accept it and I had to provide an electric bill.

surely a mobile phone is a utility
but it probably doesn't prove where you live if that's what they are after
but lots of people don't own or directly rent the property where they live so don't have power or rates bills so what are they expected to do?
how about an ISP bill ?

The purpose of showing a utility bill is to provide proof of address. A cell phone bill does not do that.

i guess some people elect to have it sent to their workplace - perhaps the boss reimburses for business calls for example

Yes, phone bill should be fine for verification as long as it has address on it.

That is correct for most books. There are few that might accept it, But Moneybookers, Neteller and most bookies won't accept it.

Personally speaking I don't think a mobile phone bill can provide the proof of your address. More over even though it can provide the details of your location but the service provider does not guarantee about the address that you have provided is the exact address of you. So this is the main reason why government officials and most of the organizations doesn't take it into considerations. Hence it is better if you can provide some other documents for your address proof. I have recently purchased some products from www.simplyrun.co.uk and the delivery courier boy asked me some id proof. When I showed him my company id, he asked me to show some other proof because he can't believe on my company's id. This was my personal experience.

                                  Most books accept it.

This, coupled with a copy of a bank statement, has worked 100% for me.

If a book doesn't want to accept it, and you have nothing else, then I would look to get into another sportsbook.

As we move to a more paperless society, it makes it harder and harder to provide this stuff. I keep a couple things coming paper JUST TO PROVE residency because I know I will have to. Most places will not accept "on-line" printouts. Especially tuff for those of us who do not have mail service.

Bank statement usually will suffice in lieu of utility bill.

don't know why a bank statement proves where you live any more than where a mobile phone bill does

I used to have mine and most of my bills sent to my office rather than home

In the past one bookie didn't accept my bank statement. They thought it was a fake, but it was real. Instead of the bank statement they accepted a delivery note. The best way is to ask the support what they accept.

a rental receipt from their landlord or estate agent ?
Pinnacle doesn't accept that. It's my predicament. I'm a US citizen living outside the US, but can't get an account because I rent and the utilities are not in my name and changing one to my name is a bureaucratic nightmare.
