POLISH SOCCER PICKS

Introduction:
I've been watching Polish Soccer since I was a kid growing up in Poland. I've now moved abroad, but I still follow the Ekstraklasa, I Liga, and the National team very closely via the internet. I'm not an expert by any means, but I'm just looking to create a thread to track my plays and create some discussion about Polish games with others. Tail/follow at your own risk. There will definitely be ups and downs, just like everything in life!

Comments:
The Ekstraklasa is back after a 2 month break! The first few weeks will be hard to predict, especially with the long break and the harsh weather conditions.

For play #1, I really like Polonia even if they're away. LKS is a mess right now, they're having major financial difficulties and almost had to forfeit the season. LKS is near the relegation zone, while Polonia is fighting for a Europa League spot near the top. Motivation will be big, and I believe Polonia has what it takes to win this one away. Originally I was going to take Over 2.5, but due to the horrible weather expected tomorrow I decided against it.

Plays #2 and #3, Lech Poznan will be at home with arguably the best fan support in the league behind them. Lech usually scores a lot when at home, especially when facing a weaker opposition. Will the weather stop them? I don't know, but I'm willing to take a chance on this one. GKS is very weak, sitting near the bottom of the table. They have yet to win a game on the road, while Lech (5W-1D-2L) is strong at home.

Thank you for this thread, it's interesting. I'm from Russia and I remember a lot of great matches between polish and russian teams. And we are in the same group on Euro 2012 I'd really like to know more about polish football.

Polonia was a sure thing. ŁKS is a mess this round and if they won't get relegated it will be a "miracle" again. Couldn't create anything tonight 0:2 was the lowest punishment.
And about Lech I just found out before the game that they haven't won H2H with GKS on its own field for...13 years.

I'll keep it brief.

I expect the Widzew game will be a low scoring affair, but I expect Widzew to win by a goal since they are strong team at home (4-3-1). Although there is a strong possibility of a draw here since the newly promoted side Podbeskidzie is no pushover, I'm taking a chance.

Lechia Gdansk has underachieved this year, I'm expecting a better 2nd half from them. What better way to start the 2nd half to face a relegation fighting Cracovia side. Although Cracovia is at home, their home record of 2-1-5 is nothing to be proud of.

Slask Wroclaw is a team I follow very closely, having grown up watching this team. The team mostly consists of Polish players who aren't the most skillful, but have great chemistry. Team started doing well when they hired a new coach named Lenczyk. The team has been playing well for close to 1 year and a lot of people think the team is the real deal. I sill feel this team has overachieved, and expect the team to start to come back to reality. Ruch Chorzow does get involved in a lot of high scoring games, and have only lost once this season by more than 1-goal. I feel Ruch can possibly sneak out a draw, or even possibly win this game, especially considering it's the 1st game after the break.

I think the results speak for themselves, quite poor. I thought Lechia was going to pull it off, but an 87th min goal by Cracovia foiled that one. It was a fair result, but not for me! Slask-Ruch, I thought for sure would go over 2.5, lots of missed opportunities, mostly for Slask. 3 Games left this round, maybe I can break even.

Wisla (6th) against Lubin (16th). Wisla has been struggling to score goals this season, but Lubin's defense is terrible, allowing 14 goals in their last 4 matches. One of Wisla's top players, Melikson, will be back. However, Malecki, another one of Wisla's top players, will not be. I still like Wisla's chances to win. The over may be a stretch, but Wisla is due for a big scoring performance!

Legia (3rd) against Gornik (11th). Gornik (4-1-3) is a solid team at home, but Legia (5-2-2) is a good road team. Last time these teams met, Legia won 3-1 in Warsaw. The over in this game is a big stretch, but I like the value.

Hopefully I can have a winning day for once.

Wisla should take it easily today. Zaglebie is a total mess since the last position in the league. Melikson is back in Wisla squad and that is 50% of that team, the guy is awesome in the middle, the best midfielder in Polish league at the moment. Malecki is not a problem cuz he makes more wind than he plays. He isn't useful for the team at all. No big loss for Wisla. 2-0 for Wisla today my prediction.

Jagiellonia has a very bad record away (1-2-5), but I feel the team is on the way up with the changes they have made. They hired a new coach in Hajto, brought back Sandomierski, transferred in Rasiak (not the greatest striker, but good by Ekstraklasa standards), transferred in a nice young player in Dzalamidze, and brought in some other nice little pieces. There is a very strong possibility of a draw here, it's the reason I have Jaga +1, and a draw no bet. Hopefully I can have a winning day for a change!

Some Europa League action tomorrow. Wisla played pretty good against Standard Liege at home in the first leg, despite being a man down early. It's possible they can win tomorrow, but unlikely. However, I have a hard time seeing them losing by more than 1 goal, let alone 2. Legia game is tricky. I can see them geting blown out, but Legia has been pretty clutch in Europa league action this year. If you're reading this thread, probably a good idea to pick the opposite to win some money, haha!

Comments: LKS, like I said in previous posts, is a club that is an absolute mess. Lechia isn't doing that great either, but I still expect a big 2nd half of the season from them. I think they will win, but in a very close/low scoring game, perhaps 1-0 my prediction for Lechia. Reason I'm going with the under in this one.

Ruch is a strong team, especially at home. Lech's form is a bit down, especially after losing to GKS at home last weekend, but I can see Lech bounce back with a win here. I have this pegged as a strong draw candidate, with possibility of either team winning by no more than 1-goal.
