Holland must play with there hearts out !!!

Maldini Tells Van Basten: Lose & Forget Milan Job

Former Italy coach Cesare Maldini is confident that Holland will not deliberately lose their match against Romania on Tuesday night because if they do so Marco Van Basten can forget any ambitions he has of coaching in Serie A.

The Dutch have already qualified for the quarter finals as group winners having thrashed Italy and France 3-0 and 4-1 respectively in their first two games.

Both World Cup finalists must now go for a win in their game, and hope that Holland can do them a favour against Romania.

However there are obvious conspiracy theories that Marco Van Basten’s men may throw the game in order to eliminate France and Italy who are potential semi-final opponents.

Former national team coach Cesare Maldini, who led the Azzurri at the 1998 World Cup today visited the Azzurri training camp, and he believes that Holland will play fair.

“I can guarantee Van Basten and the Dutch's seriousness. I travel the world and I know how they think," said the father of Paolo.

“Against Romania they will play seriously. And I also want to say something else. Van Basten has a two year contract [with Ajax after the Euros] but I know that after he wants to come to coach in Italy.

"Will it be at Milan? We will see. But for sure he will want to arrive in Italy with a clean slate, and he cannot do this by losing to the Romanians on purpose.”

Sacchi Issues Plea To Van Basten

Former Italy and Milan coach Arrigo Sacchi is hopeful that Netherlands coach Marco van Basten will do the Azzurri a favour and beat Romania in their final qualifier in Euro 2008's Group of Death...

The Netherlands are already qualified top of the group, and as such have little left to play for, beyond continuing their momentum, satisfying the fans and of course pride - all of which seem to count for little in modern football, in light of Portugal's showing against Switzerland yesterday.

Romania are remarkably favourites to qualify second behind the Netherlands, with the two biggest names in the group - 2006 World Cup finalists Italy and France - relying on the Netherlands-Romania result to go their way to even stand a chance of qualifying.

Should Romania win, then they are through. A draw would also take them through if France and Italy do likewise, and they can even qualify with a loss if it is by less than three goals and France-Italy is a goalless draw. As such, all the focus will be on the Netherlands during the final round of Group C games tomorrow evening, something Italian legend Arrigo Sacchi is only all too aware of.

"We're hoping, dear Marco, to thank you not only for the beautiful soccer that your team is displaying, but also for the favor you could do for your old teammate Roberto and all your Italian admirers. With respect, admiration and friendship, Arrigo," wrote Sacchi in his column in the Gazzetta dello Sport.
