The men's World Cup is easily the biggest sporting event in the world. All the countries place importance on it on par with any thing else in their entire lives. Whatever happens makes the front page of every single newspaper. It makes ridiculous money and literally billions of people watch the games.
In contrast, no country outside of the US cares even a lick about the women's version. It routinely loses millions of dollars, games are not even shown on cable TV in many countries and games are played at half empty stadiums.
Why such a huge difference? It's still the same sport.
