New to Sports Bet... need some tips!
Hello Guys! Just found this website with Google and I'm glad I did it. This forum looks like it got a LOT on informations about Sports Betting.

So, like I say in the Title, I'm very attracted to that kind of way-of-life. I'm 24 yrs old and I want to try to do some sports betting to see if I can get some money out of it. But unfortunately, I can't find any "tips" on the internet, to know how to bet. I'd like to get good "Sports Betting for Dummies" guide. Is this possible? Could you point me out to one of them? I'll appreciate if you do, be sure of that.

Also, which sites would you suggest for a Canadian resident? I'd like to be able to deposite via my Checking bank account (if that's possible... I can't remeber the name of this kind of transaction). Also, I'd like to be able to withdraw (if I ever win) by the same method which is from my sportsbook account directly to my checking bank account. I know there could be some fees to that but... anyway!

So, please guys, give me any informations a newbie need to know. I'm really interested into joining this world so I can get some pocket money with it.

Oh! I almost forgot. Is there any ways, on most of the sports betting website, to bet in a simple way, like : choosing New York Giants as WINNER against Cincinnati Bengals? Because, to be honest, I don't have a clue about those odds, and all those numbers that appears on a "Place your bets" screen.

I hope you guys will help me the best you could!

    Thanks for reading.

    Dan

Welcome. I've been led to believe at this site that Americans suck at everything and Canadians are damn near perfect. So since I'm an American, I probably shouldn't offer any advice and since you're Canadian, you could probably just start throwing your money around any old place and come out a winner.

Just kidding, couldn't resist a Sunday morning return volley of sarcasm.

Pick a sport you like to follow, learn everything about it, watch it, read about the strategies inside out, really come to understand it. Then go set up your spreadsheet at your MySBR page and start picking some straight moneyline winners on a daily/weekly basis, basically using 'monopoly money' at this stage If you get comfortable with your wagering/capping skills and can afford to lose whatever you bet, then start thinking about opening an account and doing it for real. If you're really as much of a newbie as you say, you need to sort of wade into the creek instead of diving right in before you know how deep it can get.

I'm Canadian, however my wife is American. So needless to say i never will subscribe to the theory that us Canadians will ever know more than an American!!

      To the Original Poster

Plenty of great information on this site, however i suggest if one wants to learn this proper information, to stick to the Handicappers Think Tank and digest as much information from there as you can.

As for your question about wagering, it sounds like you want to bet the moneyline rather than the point spread. So yes you can do it, but you have to pay a much steeper price if you are looking to just bet a favourite as a straight out winner. To use your example, if you wanted to wager on the NY Giants to win outright against Cinncinati you'd need to lay $700 to win a $100.

I use Moneybookers which is available to Canadians. However there are other methods that other Canadians use which link your bank account. Instadebit seems to be the other most popular one.

Good luck to you, but as Willie suggested, i'd use a paper trail first to learn before diving into this with any real money

        :O Wow. I didn't know that.

But on the other hand, thanks a lot to you both for these informations. It's very appreciated!

Hi DCSemi, welcome to the SBR forum! Glad you found us.

To elaborate more on the "outright winner" or "moneyline' betting. If you want to wager on a favorite, you will indeed pay a steeper price. Conversely, if you bet on the underdog, you will typically see odds from +100 to +600 and in some cases a bit higher in the NFL. Meaning, if you bet on a +600 underdog, $100 nets $600.

I would first familiarize yourself with pointspreads, (team A favored by 6 pts) before immersing yourself into other wagering options. It won't take you long to get the hang of and you can always ask more questions. You will get more views/replies posting in the Players Talk (main) section also.

As far as a sportsbook, as a Canadian resident I would choose Pinnacle Sports if I were you. They are the absolute best of the best, they should be able to accommodate your banking options with one of their deposit/w'd methods.
