NBA player Chandler Parsons hit by drunk driver, suffered brain injury
(Michael Reaves/Getty Images)Atlanta Hawks forward Chandler Parsons suffered “multiple severe and permanent injuries” from a car crash last week, his attorney at Morgan & Morgan said in a release via Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes.
Parsons, 31, was involved in a car accident Jan. 15 and was initially reported to have suffered a concussion and whiplash. Per his attorney’s remarks Monday, his injuries include a traumatic brain injury, disc herniation and a torn labrum that could “potentially” end Parsons’ career.

    From Morgan & Morgan’s statement:

“Chandler was in peak physical condition at the time of the wreck. He is now working with a team of doctors to regain his health, and at this time, his ability to return to play is unclear. Our focus right now is on helping him make a full recovery, while we also work to hold any and all responsible parties fully accountable.”
Attorney: Parsons hit by alleged drunk driver

Parsons was on his way home from practice when he was hit by a driver who caused a three-car crash at a busy intersection, per the release by Morgan & Morgan. The driver was arrested for drinking and driving, they said.

“The at-fault driver created utter chaos on the roadway, needlessly endangering the lives of countless motorists; he now stands charged with DUI, admitted drinking, had alcohol in the car with him, passed out after causing a three-car crash at 2 p.m. on a Wednesday in a busy intersection, seriously injuring and potentially ending Mr. Parsons’ career as a professional athlete.”
Morgan & Morgan added that Parsons is having a “difficult time accepting the consequences” of the “reckless conduct.”
Parsons had been a healthy scratch since Dec. 27 and played only 54 minutes over five games. He has scored 14 points this season.
The eight-year veteran has played for the Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks and Memphis Grizzlies. The Grizzlies traded him in the offseason to offload the final year of his four-year contract.

Returning from practice? That's ironic since he doesn't ever play.

Awful. DUI laws are way too lenient. Didn’t even know he was still in nba.

Malik Sealy of the Wolves 2as killed in 2000 after KGs b-day party.

He was hit head on by a Hmong immigrant driving the wrong way on the freeway, who's BAC was .20. Sealy wasn't wearing a seatbelt and his airbag didn't deploy. Needless to say it was gruesome.

Hmong got 4 years. Released in 3 for good behavior.

Personally I feel the DUI laws are too tight for those who cause no harm to a person place or thing, and too lenient for those who do.

Couldn't disagree more. Whether it actually works or not is another story, but the point is deterrence. Make it hurt so the offender is less likely to repeat. Treating it like a speeding ticket doesn't help.

DUI causing people to drive poorly is the problem, whether you kill people or not is just variance.
