So supporting BLM didn't destroy NBA ratings as everyone on SBR predicted? Huge shock!

States allowing gambling will increase ratings in all sports especially the playoffs. That was a playoff type game.

Homie how were the ratings on the hornets vs Indy?

                        NBA TV is dead

Has been declining for 10 years, accelerated last 2.

$15.2 billion in lost ad revenue due to poor ratings.

You had a prime time game featuring the defending Champs & Lebron vs the 3 time Champs & MVP fav Curry. LA v SF...a total California match-up on national TV and still only got 5.5m viewers. Think about that...the average Monday or Thursday night football game gets twice that much (12m).

The absolute best product the NBA can showcase for playoff time is still just half of your average MNF audience. And the ratings as a whole, over the last 36 months, are equivalent to network news casts.

The league has aligned itself with social messages ...the fans sent them a message as well.

They are gonna get a NA TV deal north of 70 billion plus a separate multi billion dollar deal in China. They do not care what 40 something white dudes think about BLM.

NBA still gonna struggle. BLM killed it for viewers. Fun to bet on though.

That's nba spin to drive up price, they will not sniff anything close to that.

Having fans has a lot to do with it.

Much more energy in these games.

Rating declines weren't as much to do with BLM movement as they were covid -- no fans make for boring games.

Not IMO, a lot of NBA fans got their cable shutoff during the pandemic, They aren’t going anywhere. It’s not like the NFL where they have a majority of their games on regular tv.

i hate Both Teams but it was one of the best games i have watched in a long time, probably since the 2020 playoffs.

the stakes are high now that the 'offs have started to this will be a lot of fun to follow and with so many big market teams such as both LA teams and both NY teams the ratings will be off the charts. don't forget philly, boston, miami, and possibly golden state so there are some huge markets outside of LA and NY in there so the masses will tune in.

                                          book it.

Refs not gonna gift LA any calls at all. Warriors had a chance to win that game last night, but they got sloppy. They also don't know how to get to the free throw line, because 80% of their shots are jumpers. Lakers live in the paint, it's only natural they go to the line a solid amount. Basketball 101 bro.

Kyle Hines tried to bring that BLM crap over to Euroleague. Never materialized thank god. Think it only got as far as little gestures like holding hands in pre-game in a show of unity. No problem. Play ball, FFS.

Last week, ESPN revealed the Western Conference play-in tournament game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors drew a solid crowd.

According to The Athletic’s Richard Deitsch, the matchup averaged 5.6 million viewers on ESPN. The broadcast peaked at 6.1 million viewers late in the fourth quarter, around 12:30 a.m. ET.
Fans were obviously interested in seeing a one-game throwdown between LeBron James and Steph Curry. With the regular playoffs kicking off soon after, would they draw the same audience?
Not quite. Austin Karp of the Sports Business Journal revealed the ratings for the playoffs thus far. According to Karp, the playoffs have averaged 2.89 million viewers across ESPN, ABC and TNT through the first week.

                                                              Here’s his report.

It’s a massive step down from the one-game play-in game between LeBron James’ Lakers and Steph Curry’s Warriors. Of course, there is the same weight when comparing a one-game play-in to a playoff series.
The good news is that the ratings are up from the 2019 season when directly compared. Karp also noted the rating are up 49-percent year-over-year.
There will be plenty of eyeballs on tonight’s action with three games games on the docket. The Boston Celtics hope to avoid a 2-0 hole against the Brooklyn Nets in the first game of the night.
LeBron and the Lakers hope to do the same against the Phoenix Suns in the second game. Then it’s Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks against Kawhi Leonard and the Los Angeles Clippers.
