On the subject of the employee having a gun the next time, I would think that's pretty dangerous in a mob situation, considering it only takes one thief to pull out a gun when you're not looking right at them to get screwed, or possibly any number of them group-attacking you with or without weapons. I'd like to see any victim kicking a robber's ass, but life isn't a t.v. show or video game, unfortunately. I believe the store having insurance was mentioned, so it's mostly not worth it to fight back without the proper aids.

A real defense against convenience store theft would be having the employee[s] in a protected area (which at least some stores do; I don't know why more don't), sturdy glass/structure and a remote-locking door. I like the idea of then filling the store with passifying gas, which would be practical and potentially hilarious.

They look like punk ass high school kids to me not a bunch of gang members. A couple will get caught and rat out the others. Between the video and the outside customers writing down some license plates it won't take long to get a few of them and they will make it easy to figure out the rest. I agree the clerk did the right thing. Dumb ass kids.

This is not a robbery, since the store clerk wasn't threaten in anyway. More like a traditional beer run. Grand Larceny since whatever they stole didn't valued over $300 dollars. Penalties will likely be similar to a DUI charge. A misdemeanor with restitution and community service to the public.
