Look into Asus and Toshiba. Lower price point but you would be surprised at the dependability. Look up their return rates.

Years ago I bought an eMachine that held up well. I bought a Toshiba laptop 2 years ago; no problems yet and I really like it.

I have a Toshiba. If you type a lot of numbers, I recommend a number key pad.

These were the first two that I was going to say... Asus is actually starting to get a little more expensive but honestly is probably the best unit on the market for a reasonable price right now.

Then Dell, HP, Lenovo, IBM are your step up price.

The best place i have found for good laptops and good prices is at a pawn shop.

You can wheel and deal with them and end up getting a good computer at a great price.

Got my Toshiba at wal-mart over a year ago for under $175 and I love it. They were running them on sale but I cant imagine them being much more anytime, I think I even got a router too for that price

I bought an HP notebook, and it died after two years of use. This is coming from someone who is fairly computer-savvy.

I usually buy Toshiba but got a better deal on a HP at Best Buy.14" so its nice size to carry around and light!

I have had 4 different laptops, and all different brands. In order of reliability and price factored in.

1. Toshiba
2. HP
3. Dell
4. Acer

toshiba flashcard error drove me crazy on the laptop i had.
no problem with my hp.

Toshiba works good for me. Also have an acer right now but recently experience problems with it after 2-3 years
