    Intelligence vs Happiness
If you could take a one time pill that would increase your Intelligence by any percentage of your choice but it would also make you less Happy by the same percentage....would you do it... and by what percentage?

Same thing goes here... if you could take a pill that would increase your Happiness by any percentage of your choice but it would also decrease your Intelligence by the exact same percentage... would you do it... and by what percentage?

Point of the questions... we've all probably met extremely happy people that are dumb as hell AND we've all probably met brilliant people that are miserable. What would you rather be?

i wouldn't make any change if given the option, however if i had to pick i would choose happiness pretty easily. What would be the point of intelligence if your not happy? The main benefit of being intelligent is that you can give yourself a better life, and presumably be happier as a result.

Happiness, no doubt. Ignorance really is bliss sometimes.

I think I would choose happiness as well. Although I would hate to lose any intelligence that I might have.

Ignorance is bliss. I'd happily go down 5% or so, no pun intended.

Happiness overrules intelligence in my books. So I would rather be happy in life then be miserable.

                Happiness

I agree that people want intelligence to give you more success/wealth which in turn are supposed to make you happier. If you can just have a short cut to happiness why not take it?

It's like people bitching that Lebraun James never went to college. Yeah, but people go to college so that they can increase their skills/resume and make more money. Lebraun James playing 2 years at Kentucky wouldn't have done anything for him in the sense that most people use college.

People pick Happiness and it's probably why there are more junkies, druggies, and tent cities than dedicated John Galts, Francisco D'Aconias, Hank Reardons and Dagny Taggarts that are dedicated to their craft.

Now the ironic thing is that the drudges to society often idealize "the greater good" while they dislike "selfishness" but who'se the most selfish of all? The druggies asking for a hand out? They'll tell you the "rich" successful person who dedicated their life to their craft is 'selfish" when they want to keep more of the pie. In reality the welfare deadbeats are the most selfish of all, and if not for the sacrafices of the smart we'd be living like savages.

Inteligence. Happiness is useless if you are not aware of it.

But plenty of people are happy yet unaware of how little intelligence they have.

Happiness is just a state of mind, it is not reality.

Give me intelligence, that is tangible and cant be influenced by external factors, while happiness is almost always derived externally.

Some of the happier people in this world are some of the less intellectually blessed. WHY? Dumber people accept things more readily and dont beat their heads against walls like smart people who think they know that their frustrating pursuits should work

                                      Here's the funny thing

                                      Retarded people are generally happy
                                      Handicapped people are generally happy
Rich silver spoon types probably commit suicide just as much as any income level

South America is the "happiest" continent
Seattle is the suicide capital of America

"the south" is happier than the north. People that live in say Alabama, Florida, georgia are much happier than people in New Jersey, New York, Massachusets.

                                      Conservatives are happier than liberals
People that believe in god are happier than those who don't
As much as people joke, I believe married are happier than unmarried people

I think smart people are generally happy, insanely smart people are often not.

                                      Intelligence doesn't equate to success

What does? I don't ask this glibly.

I'd venture that a combination of intelligence (raw ability), skill (knowledge, tool box), tenacity (work ethic) and, perhaps most importantly, luck gives one the best chance to be successful.

That got me thinking a lot...
It depends on what stage of my life you ask me. If you ask in the in the 40's I'd probably choose hapiness, because the older you get the less materialistic things count. If you ask me when I'm 15-30 I'd say intelligence because I wanna do things that matter - for humanity and for my personal development. And then hope that that makes me happy

That guy supposedly has a high IQ and he's a bouncer. He's not rich.

I'd stay where I am. I consider myself rather intelligent and I'm as happy as one can be on a student budget.
