Workman's comp claims can be a bear to deal with sometimes, also.

They're big on collecting the checks but slow on stroking them.

Well... our lovely government writing the ERISA laws back in the day has made it almost a no lose proposition for the insurance companies to initially decline the claim.

The worst that happens is, after 2+ years of ligitation (of which the claimant pays for themselves), if the judgement is for the claimant the insurance company pays the claim. The exact same amount that they'd have paid 2+ years earlier except they were able to realize interest income on that claim amount of that time. The claimant doesn't get a penny more than what the initial claim was for (how much interest could be accumulated on a $1 million claim over 2+ years????!!!!!) plus their legal costs have to be paid as well...

Shouldn't the IRS have to work under the same premise, only in reverse? They'd be the claimant and we be the payer... if you were audited, etc. fight it as long as possible then if it is deemed you owe some back taxes from 3 years ago you pay what is deemed owed. No penalties, fees, interest, etc. Alas, we know that ain't gonna happen.

Isn't ERISA great? There is no downside to an insurance company dragging their feet and sandbagging.

Insurance companies have to be the scum of the Earth because people by their nature are scum. The amount of fradualent and pumped up claims is staggering. The industry has to try to make a profit. Next time, when Uncle Joe with his fake back injury is sitting at home collecting checks when you know he can work, look in the mf mirror...thats why the insurance companies are dicks

Insurance companys really are scum. They take some much money from people and hardly ever give back. Just think of all the people who don't get into accidents or who don't get sick often. These folks hand out money every month every year and don't see any return.

Insurance companys make so much money it's ridiculous. That's is how they're able to afford all these ridiculous commercials. Millions go into commercials and they can afford it. They can even do super bowl spots. Just think of all those dumb geico gecko commercials, state farm (where they wish for something and it magically appears with their agent), allstate (the African American actor), nationwide (the guy falling on shit and crashing into stuff.) Ridiculous!

All types are a rip-off and to be legislated to need insurance by law is one of the biggest crimes ever committed against the citizens of the US
