my wife always feels bad for the poor mexicans that are there trying to get some furniture or whatever for cheap to help out their families and then the unit goes for $1000+

I actually did this once. My friend was out of work and we decided it was an interesting venture, so I sent him with a wad of cash. We ended up buying a unit that was rented by an A/C company. After all the work cleaning it out and selling off the pieces, the profit didn't justify the effort. It was an interesting experience. I learned that if you try and sell boxes of a companies customer records and invoices back to the company, while not illegal, the storage auction ethics police will come down on you as if you were trying to torture puppies or something.
