Looking to move in a couple months. Heard the job market is tough. I dont believe I have any job experience worth noting. Im not entirely concerned about what kind of job or even so much the pay, right away anyway. Question is, will I be able to find SOMETHING to keep me afloat. More moving to, live the dream, throw the saving in the sports market and see what happens. I would like to have a side job though, just in case you know. If anyone has any tips it would be appreciated. Coming from the east coast so interviews are not something Im interested in before I get there. Thanks

#2The local job market, while not great, is increasing at a seemingly exponential pace. There are far more job openings now than there were 6 months ago, and there were far more job openings 6 months ago than there were a year ago. Most of the jobs that I've seen are in the restaurant industry and part time stuff in box stores. I'm not looking so there's probably a lot more than what I've seen. In late January Station Casinos put out a call for 1000 new workers. There are also new business opening up for the first time in a few years, and I'm sure they're hiring too. If you know or are willing to learn how to deal poker, there will be a lot of temp openings when the World Series starts up in late May.
Good luck.Comment -

#3I just did for 6 months. Was like living a dream and a nightmare at the same time. Great times though.

#7You have to save for 3-6 months of living expenses right now. Move somewhere cheap in southern Vegas and job hunt...if your resume is average make it better..
If you don't find a job within that 3-6 month period move out or push it a little longer.Comment -

#12unless you have zero personality, a criminal record and can't pass a mandatory drug test just about every casino is hiring entry level jobs. granted they are crap pay, but it is a foot in the door. player card clubs, cooks, facilities always have openings.
be prepared to have a 10 year work/school history for every casino application. your best bet would be to go onto the major casino operator websites and check for job openings and begin to apply right when you get to town.Comment -

#15No sportsbook bonuses and very little in the way of comps. Usually you'll get a drink ticket for bets $100 and up, and a few places like Stations will give you a small number of points. They do limit and 86 people, but if you're betting small they won't notice you.Comment -

#21Vegas has like the highest unemployment in the country. I dont live there but from what I've been reading its really tough to fight a job there right now. I'm not trying to be a dick but I think its better to know what your getting yourself into. Here a article I a few weeks ago, its kind of a long read and pretty bleak.

#25Your rent should be no problem. You can get a one bedroom apartment for $450-550 a month, especially in the SE part of town, where I live. I own my own home and rent out rooms occasionally. If you are willing to let me do a background check on you, I would gladly rent you a room for $400 a month, cable tv, and Broadband connection included.Comment -

#26thanks vegasm, but im not looking for a roommate or anything other than my own place. it doesnt look like finding a place will be a problem. even found some places, completely furnished, all utilities included, for around 700. thats cheaper than im paying now in pennsylvania. living on my own since high school and have no plans of anything different. 700 rent until i figure out if im staying long term or not is just fine.Comment
