Everyone had to get a Creepy Crawlers molding oven with goop. Then shortly after they made incredible edibles that looked like creepy crawlers that you could eat. Then there was Shrinky Dinks.Boxing Robots,Operation Game,Mouse Trap.
Every kid that grew up in a cold climate got a table top hockey game every two years. It took that long for it to wear out where the rods bent and top warped. You played it steady and were rough on it.The magnetic puck sucked playing with so you stuck to the wooden one.The ball bearing puck really sucked. When the wooden puck cracked you were SOL because you couldn't buy spares. You taped and glued the old ones or made a homeade one. There were only a few expansion teams back then but you got all 10 or 12 teams of interchangeable steel players.Everyone bent the sticks to curve them where eventually the sticks would crack off and be stubs. You then fielded players from numerous teams on the same team. All the players looked like Maurice Richard,Bobby Orr and Gump Worsely.Man I wish I had a mint 1965 table top hockey game again.
Basketball, baseball and football tried to make similar games but they failed misserably.Anyone remember the magnetic football games where you just formed wedges hoping it would clear the way so your guy could aimlessly ramble all over the board where the end result was scoring? The little metal kicker could kick 110 yard field goals. You got sick of the game and you just practiced field goals.
