Part of me thinks we need a middle ground charge for cops. What I mean is, with murder people are sentenced to 15 yrs to life minimum usually. Cops put their lives at risk and yes this was a mistake, should he go away for life or 15 yrs? No. However letting him walk free isn't right either.

Think there needs to be a 2-5 yr sentence that cops can receive. Then maybe, just maybe, there would be some justice against trigger happy police and society would not fear cops so much.

While I agree, yes that is a small sentence, neither side would be happy, at least SOME punishment would be given rather than police just walking away 99% of time in police related shootings.

    What a tragedy.
Cops in Colorado, and everywhere else for that matter, are not held accountable and punished accordingly for their crimes.
Internal investigations are a joke, also.
"We investigated ourselves and found no wrong doing" seems to be the general narrative.
Just of a few miles west of Aurora (where the story in the OP takes place) in Westminster an on duty cop raped a handcuffed woman he was transporting and only received a 90 day jail sentence.
